Now that this serial is at this crucial point, It would be interesting to try and delve into Ravan's mind - and hypothesise just what made him capture Sita.
On a basic level, it's obvious that he did so to avenge Surpanakha's insult. But is it? If it was so - he would have just gone there and fought with Ram and Lakshman.
Was it because Surpanakha extolled Sita's beauty - and fanned the fires of lust in him - so that he had to have her? If so then, he could have just gone to Dandakaranya and fought with with Ram, and taken Sita (or so he would have thought)
What's clear is that - he did not want to face Ram. Hence the strategy of taking Marich with. Ravan deliberately planned to lure Ram away from Sita before kidnapping her. This being Trilok-vijayi Ravan! Before we quickly call him a coward, lets remember this guy fought with Sahara-Arjun, Yam, and Kaal!
Could it also be that (according to some versions) he lost out on Sita at her Swayamvar and that's why he had to have her to heal his bruised ego.
Or could it be that the kidnapping was political??? Imagine for a minute that Ravan goes to capture to Sita and fights with Ram to do so. If Ram had lost Sita, Ram still may not have lost respect in his Aryan community. People would respect him for "taking on the mighty Ravan" and if he hypothetically died, then people would make him a matyr. "Our brave Aryan Prince Ram put up a heck of a fight against the mighty Ravan - and in the course of trying to protect his wife - attained Veergati"ðŸ˜..... ....But if Ravan distracts Ram, then captures Sita, and imagines that Ram would never reach Lanka - then Ram would appear foolish to his Aryan community. "Our weak prince Ram couldnt even protect his wife - he was running after golden deers!😡" Perhaps Ravan wanted to make Ram appear unheroic and get Sita at the same time.
I imaging these must have been Ravan's motive for abducting Sita by distracting Ram, rather than him just being a coward. I think he was just shrewd, cunning and arrogent. What do you think? Would do you think was running in that slimy mind of his - and wat made him tick?
