So yesterday’s episode was okayish. Honestly none of the dishes really stood out for me.
1. Usha Tai - I’m just surprised she pulled it off. Though Gaurav had left a lot of things already done and was guiding her, but still. There was absolutely no tai in the dish. Also, noticed only Gaurav calls her aai (mother in marathi).
2. Gaurav - looked very comforting, but not something I’d ever order in a restaurant. But I can’t fault him for having dal on his plate. He did well with whatever he got and gave a variation of the dish. I think he did well under the circumstances.
3. Nikki - clearly seems like she doesn’t care anymore. If she knew the rice lacked salt, just re do the plating after you’ve added salt. I mean who tastes salt after putting it in the mould? Also her presentation was so so. I think she’s overconfident now that she has the immunity pin. Also, the dish was almost exactly as Teja envisioned.
4. Teja - Atleast she tried to do something different with the cous cous crisps, and added her own to the dish. It was an ok presentation, not her best dish or presentation but not bad.
5. Archana - Okayish presentation, but there was no Archana in the dish. Even if she served the ravioli with saag, it’s ok but she should’ve named her dish differently. This could be an interesting take on palak paneer. She’s now looking like she’s out of ideas.
6. Rajiv - this guy always impresses. I think he made a fairly good dish with ok plating. Just the fact that he only got boiled vegetables and he pulled this off is commendable.
Challenge 2-
Why did Nikki get an advantage? Until now the previous challenges top dish winner got the advantage.
Also, did anyone else feel Tai literally got the easiest spices to recognize - stone flower, peepli, mustard seeds and even turmeric (which she didn’t get). Archana didn’t get bad spices either, though I suspect Nikki and Teja wouldn’t have guessed some of them. I’m a North Indian who’s lives in Maharashtra and in Maharashtra they don’t use whole spices as much as in North India and also, they don’t use a lot of spices used in the north. So Nikki and Teja both being Marathis from Maharashtra clearly had a disadvantage.
While I’ve started loving Archana and Gaurav’s pair, I really would’ve liked new pairs. Somehow I hope Teja and Nikki don’t end up with a good dish, only for Nikki to learn a lesson.
I’m going to miss today’s episode, since I’m off travelling for the weekend. Will be looking forward to updates here.
