I am thinking that he maybe a closeted artist and has always had a passion for painting or something aur abhi he might throw away law because he is too clouded by the anger and pain inflicted on him by Kaveri and Vidya. So this might just be a temporary rebellious act with him realising that he eventually loves being a lawyer and going back to it full time along with taking time off to pursue his passion projects every now and then.
