The absurdity of the situation and the writing aside, I really liked the fact that Armaan thought not just about Abhira and Shivani but also about RK when he reflected on how he would never be able to do right by everyone …he recognized that RK had cared for his mother for the last decade, had stood by Abhira in the last few weeks and somehow ended up losing his heart to her …he recognised that he was beholden to RK and no matter what he chose, he could never do right by RK ….the women have their own agency and right to choice ..that’s a given …this is purely a situation where Armaan is presented with a Hobson’s choice …whom would you pick if pushed to a corner …so Armaan like to recognize that no matter what his answer, RK would always end up at the losing end …!

Exactly. People don't get that it was his choice & he felt awful that no matter what he did, the person who lost was RK & that inadvertently, he would be the villian in RK's story. He had no plans to "donate" Abhira. He wanted to choose his mother because for him she was his responsibility & the person he has craved for 30+ years. So yes he let go of Abhira as a way "karz chukana" - something that he always had been doing all his life for the Poddars and that is ingrained in him.

Funnily even Abhira understood it and stayed away from him so that he did not feel guilty for what even she understood was a right choice for Armaan at that moment.
