In my opinion, this whole show could have still worked if they cut out the endless, pointless dragging on supporting cast. I don’t even think Wahaj needed more screen time, just cutting out most of everything else would make his more by comparison. Those other side stories didn’t require the kind of screen time that was given. Of course the show would only be about 10 episodes long but we would be left with only the parts that really mattered.
So I still don’t think Usama was the lead. He just has a lot of screen time that was very repetitive and didn’t really explore his character. We didn’t get his backstory and his character had no closure. He wasn’t important enough for it. All we got was zoomed in prolonged shots of his crying face and him walking from place to place at a super slow pace. We also witnessed him carrying on with his mundane routine. Nothing was of substance and it wasn’t required. All we needed to know is that he is someone who isn’t truthful about who he really is, he has victim mentality and indulged in an affair because of his insecurities. His scenes did nothing to move the story along…it was the same stuff over and over. Like, we get it, move on. It wasn’t done well either. Haseeb should have noticed that his crying act wasn’t working out rather than lingering on it for as long as he did. I think very few people could make this character work and it certainly wasn’t Usama. The director should have brought out his strengths though and not his weaknesses.
I feel just cutting down on all those scenes would still make it appear as Wahaj was the actual lead. I would have loved for them to explore his character more but the main problem for me was the overdose of other characters in scenes that did nothing to propel the story forward. If those were cut out, Wahaj’s scenes would have felt sufficient and not become diluted in all the other nonsense.
The ending focused on the leads, the screen time overall didn’t. It wasn’t balanced well.
