Good thread Anushka! smiley10

Shivaji Maharaj

Here's a little story about him :

After a disagreement with the Emperor Aurangzeb while visiting Agra, Shivaji Maharaj and his son Sambhaji were imprisoned in a secluded palace. There, he pretended to be ill and sent away his followers and soldiers first on the pretext of not having money to pay them.

After this, he began the practice of handing out baskets of fruits and sweets to beggars and fakirs to pray for his early recovery. On one such occasion, he and his son hid themselves in the baskets and made their way out without being detected by the guards. To further escape the search parties sent after him, Shivaji separated from his son and went north instead of south as was expected of him. This way, despite having to travel longer, he managed to evade the soldiers and finally reached Rajgad to the immense joy of the population!

I think this incident highlights the importance of being clever and not merely courageous. From a king known for his guerilla tactics, this was a lesson of brain over brawn and stands out among the many other stories of valor smiley9.
