Armaan at every phase has chosen Abhira, even when it was at the cost of his family. The only time he was shown to choose his mother over his wife, was when that same wife had already signed the papers & wanted to seperate from him. He just pushed it ahead because he was tired of everything that had happened, despite him telling Abhira that he wanted to settle rather than take the case to court. The funny thing is that even Abhira understands his POV better than even he does sometimes

Vidya was vile to Abhira no denying ..so thopo a DV case against her ..and fight in court and send her to jail ..at least some bahus might secretly applaud irl …but this random accident case served no real purpose other than Armaan signing the papers that Abhira had served on him originally and thereafter Abhira’s public humiliation ..tbh I am thinking the writers played that game because they did not want to alienate the TRP audience …so like an eye for an eye, it was a humiliation for a humiliation …and they had to make Armaan orchestrate it because he held himself responsible for what had happened to Vidya…he could not convince Abhira to settle and he could not protect his mother from public humiliation…so when she demanded her pound of flesh, he complied because by humiliating Abhira, he stooped to a low that he never would have or else ..he fell in his own eyes …this was the narrative ..the writer was careful enough to underline these emotions to make an audience understand his actions …even while not defending or condoning them..

Abhira signed divorce papers because she felt Armaan dint take a stand for her or due to Manish, After than dint Armaan put in all the efforts in their relationship to bring it back on track??

Then Armaan signed the papers because he thought their relationship wont workout, gave up on making efforts or due to Vidya, Then Abhira tried to put efforts

Both have had their own reasons to sign the papers, now both need to work together
