Haan.. I don't think he did this to protect her but.. the guy had made it clear how much he absolutely hates the Goenkas.. tho he's pakka done this to insult them at the cost of his daughters happiness.. atleast that's what I think.

And definitely he did not do it to protect Charu or anything. He did it to either take Revenge from Goenkas or Prevent Charu from marrying Abhir due to his ego. In any case i feel terrible for Charu.
