The St. Louis College campus buzzed with excitement as Valentine’s week began. The air smelled of fresh flowers, chocolates, and the sweet anticipation of romance. Red and pink decorations adorned the corridors, and students ran around with roses in their hands, either nervously awaiting to confess their feelings or simply celebrating love in all its forms.

In the midst of this cheerful chaos stood Swayam Shekhawat—the eternal lover, the boy with eyes that spoke a thousand emotions, the one who had loved Sharon Rai Prakash with a devotion that never wavered. He held a single red rose in his hand, his fingers tightening around the stem as he took a deep breath. Today was Rose Day, the perfect excuse to express his love in a way that was both simple and profound.

But there was one problem—Sharon.

The diva of the college. The girl whose presence alone could make heads turn. The one who kept everyone at a distance, yet unknowingly held his heart in the palm of her hand. They had shared moments—intense, beautiful, confusing—but she always pulled away before they could truly become something more.

"Tu usse rose dega?" Rey asked, raising an amused eyebrow as he folded his arms.

Swayam nodded, determination flickering in his eyes. "Haan. Iss baar main nahi rukhunga. Yeh sirf ek phool nahi hai, Rey. Yeh meri feelings ka ek chhota sa expression hai. Usse accept karna hai ya nahi, woh uski choice hai… par main apni taraf se pura dene wala hoon."

Rey smirked, patting Swayam’s shoulder. "Bro, tujhme jo jazba hai na, woh kisi aur mein nahi hai. Best of luck!"

Sharon leaned against the railing of the rehearsal hall, watching the flurry of activity below. Girls giggled, boys tried to act confident while handing out roses, and some dramatic rejections echoed in the air.

She sighed.

Valentine’s week had never been her thing. Love was complicated. Messy. A distraction. At least, that’s what she told herself.

And yet…

Her gaze subconsciously drifted to the entrance of the atrium, where he stood. Swayam Shekhawat.

Dressed in his signature white shirt and denim, with that soft, unwavering expression that made her heart do the very thing she despised—flutter. She saw the rose in his hand and instantly knew.

He’s going to give it to me.

A strange restlessness gripped her. Did she want him to? Did she want to stop him? Or did she just want to run away before she did something stupid—like accept it?

Before she could decide, he started walking toward her.

Swayam climbed the stairs of the rehearsal hall, each step measured, purposeful. Sharon straightened, crossing her arms, feigning indifference.

"Sharon," he said, his voice soft yet steady.

She tilted her head, arching an eyebrow. "Hmm?"

Swayam held out the rose. "Happy Rose Day."

A single breath hitched in her throat. The deep red petals looked beautiful, almost poetic, against his open palm. His eyes—earnest, warm, completely unguarded—watched her, waiting, hoping.

Sharon scoffed lightly, flicking her hair over her shoulder. "Swayam, you do realize I don't do these cliché romantic things, right?"

"I know." His lips curled into a small, knowing smile. "Aur main yeh bhi jaanta hoon ki tum jitna deny karo, tumhe koi na koi rose toh zaroor dega aaj."

She pursed her lips. He wasn’t wrong.

"So?" She asked, tilting her head. "Agar main kisi aur se rose le lu toh?"

Swayam’s jaw clenched for a fraction of a second, but he quickly masked it with a chuckle. "Phir bhi, main yeh dene se pehle nahi rukhne wala. Kyunki yeh sirf ek rose nahi hai, Sharon… yeh ek sawaal hai. Jo tum abhi answer do ya nahi, yeh tumhari marzi."

For the first time, she found herself at a loss for words.

The tension between them stretched, thick and unspoken.

Finally, she reached out—her fingers barely brushing against the petals before she hesitated.

Her heart pounded. Accepting it meant something. It meant acknowledging that he mattered. That they mattered.

Instead, she smirked, stepping back. "Nice try, Swayam. But I don’t play these games."

His expression remained unchanged, but there was something in his eyes—something that said he understood.

And just like that, she turned and walked away.

But not before stealing one last glance at the rose still in his hand.

Swayam sighed, watching her leave. Rey came up behind him, shaking his head. "Mujhe laga tu disappoint hoga."

Swayam chuckled, twirling the rose in his fingers. "Sharon ne rose nahi liya, but uske expressions sab keh gaye. Woh haar nahi maanti, par haarne se darti bhi hai. Kab tak?"

Rey grinned. "Toh agli baar phir try karega?"

Swayam’s lips curled into a smirk. "Har baar."

As he walked away, he placed the rose on Sharon’s locker, knowing she would see it.

Because love wasn't about grand gestures. It was about persistence.

And he had all the patience in the world.

The next morning, Sharon stood in front of her locker, staring at the red rose carefully placed on the shelf inside.

She hadn’t taken it yesterday. Or at least, that’s what she wanted to believe. But somehow, the flower had still found its way to her. She picked it up, rolling the delicate stem between her fingers, her mind drifting to him.

Swayam Shekhawat.

The boy who never backed down. The boy who always had that unwavering look in his eyes whenever he stood before her. The boy who had the audacity to believe in something as absurd as love.

She scoffed, shaking her head, but a small smile unknowingly tugged at her lips.

"Sharon?"

Her body stiffened at the familiar voice. She turned, only to find him standing there, leaning casually against the lockers with his hands tucked into his pockets. His eyes flickered to the rose in her hand before meeting her gaze, a knowing smirk playing on his lips.

"Phir se deny karogi?" He asked, arching a brow.

Sharon quickly stuffed the rose back into her locker, shutting it with a loud clang. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."

Swayam let out a soft chuckle. "Of course, tumhe kuch yaad hi nahi rahta."

Before she could respond, the sound of excited chatter filled the hallway. Students were buzzing with anticipation. Today was Propose Day, the second day of Valentine’s week, and the atmosphere was thick with nervous confessions and hopeful hearts.

Sharon turned back to Swayam, arms crossed. "Let me guess. Tumhe bhi aaj koi propose karne waala hai?"

Swayam tilted his head, giving her a teasing look. "Kyun? Tumhe problem hogi?"

She rolled her eyes. "Please. Mujhe farq nahi padta."

His smirk deepened. "Accha?" He took a step closer, lowering his voice just enough for her to hear. "Toh agar main kisi aur ko propose kar doon, toh bhi tumhe koi farq nahi padega?"

Her throat suddenly went dry.

There it was—that same dangerous glint in his eyes. The one that told her he knew exactly what he was doing to her.

She flipped her hair over her shoulder, feigning nonchalance. "You can do whatever you want, Swayam. Meri taraf se tumhari freedom par koi restriction nahi hai."

Swayam hummed in amusement. "Interesting."

Sharon narrowed her eyes. "Kya?"

He grinned, stepping back. "Kuch nahi. Bas soch raha hoon ki aaj ka din bohot interesting hone waala hai."

And with that, he walked away, leaving her standing there, heart pounding against her ribs.

The college amphitheater was packed with students as they gathered for the grand Propose Day event. Boys and girls took turns stepping onto the small stage, confessing their feelings in front of the entire crowd. Some were accepted, some were rejected, and some confessions ended in hilarious disasters.

Sharon sat in the audience with the rest of the dance team, pretending not to care. But her eyes kept wandering—searching—for him.

And when she found him, she stilled.

Swayam stood near the stage, talking to some girl. She was blushing, tucking her hair behind her ear as she spoke to him. And then—before Sharon could fully process it—she saw the girl holding out a rose toward him.

Sharon’s fingers curled into fists.

"Uh-oh," Simmi whispered beside her. "Diva mode activated."

Sharon shot her a glare. "Shut up."

Simmi smirked. "Main toh bas keh rahi hoon, tumhari body language clearly bata rahi hai ki tumhe—"

"Simmi," Sharon warned, her voice dangerously low.

Meanwhile, on the stage, the girl was still holding out the rose, waiting for Swayam to take it. He looked at it for a moment, then let out a small chuckle.

"Sorry," he said, stepping back. "Par main kisi aur se pyaar karta hoon."

Sharon’s breath caught in her throat.

Gasps echoed around the amphitheater. The girl looked embarrassed but managed a polite nod before quickly walking away. But Sharon wasn’t paying attention to her anymore.

Because Swayam was now walking toward the stage.

And he was looking straight at her.

The murmurs around the crowd grew as Swayam stepped up, microphone in hand. His gaze never left Sharon’s.

"Lagta hai aaj mujhe bhi propose karna hi padega," he said, voice laced with amusement.

The crowd erupted in cheers and whistles. Everyone knew about him and Sharon. Their chemistry, their endless push and pull—it was a story the entire college had been invested in for years.

Sharon’s heart was hammering so loudly she could barely hear what was happening around her.

"Swayam!" Rey called from the audience. "Kis lucky ladki ko propose kar rahe ho?"

Swayam smiled, but his eyes remained locked onto Sharon’s.

"Lucky ladki?" He repeated, his voice dropping slightly. "Mujhe nahi lagta ki yeh ek luck ki baat hai. Yeh pyaar ki baat hai."

A hush fell over the audience.

And then, in front of everyone, Swayam Shekhawat got down on one knee.

Sharon’s breath hitched.

The amphitheater erupted into chaos—screams, whistles, cheers—but all Sharon could see was him.

"Sharon Rai Prakash," he said, his voice steady, his expression unshaken. "Main tumse kabse pyaar karta hoon, yeh tum jaanti ho. Tumne jitna bhi deny karne ki koshish ki ho, tumhe pata hai ki hum dono ke beech jo hai, woh special hai."

Her fingers gripped the edges of her dress.

Swayam held out a single red rose. "Aaj Propose Day hai, aur main yeh sirf ek formality ke liye nahi kar raha. Main tumse yeh sawal isliye pooch raha hoon kyunki mujhe tumhari sachai chahiye. Tum sach mein chhupna chahti ho, ya tum bhi—"

He exhaled, his voice softening. "—mujhse utna hi pyaar karti ho jitna main tumse karta hoon?"

The crowd fell into stunned silence.

All eyes were on her.

Sharon stared at him, her heart pounding, her mind spinning.

She should say no. She should walk away. She should maintain the walls she had spent years building.

But she couldn’t move.

Because deep down, she knew.

She had already lost this battle a long time ago.
