This story is from certain versions of folk tales of Telugu origin I think. There is a ballad/song about Urmila and Nidra Devi episode. Some versions even go on to say Nidra Devi took revenge on Lakshman for making her comply with his wishes. Lakshman promised to accept sleep as soon as she reaches out to him after they reached Ayodhya and she does so just before the coronation and Lakshman sleeps through it all and laments to Rama in some versions before going to sleep. He has to keep his promise but is pained to miss his brother's coronation. In another version Nidra Devi is impressed with Lakshman's resolve of not sleeping and keeping awake she asks his permission to take over him and he chuckles. Everyone around him hears and sees him and their thoughts are in a frenzy thinking why he laughed. When asked he says, "All these years Nidra Devi did not come near me and now she asks my permission to take over me." He also mentions his eyelids getting heavy and the umbrella/fan/post he held was slipping from his hand.

in those days

men clad in dhoti and shawl covering the torsos and jewellery

women wore sari and wrap it around in dhoti style covering their body and a dupatta and jewellery

though in tv adaptations

they show them wearing tube blouse and sleeveless blouse etc just to avoid controversy

Costumes being bright elevates the mood. I understand NDTV Ramayan, the colours were fine.

BRC at times was quite gaudy and flashy but it wasn't way off or displeasing.

Some productions end up stereotyping costumes... Like BRC Mahabharat, everyone was with armour all the time except for very few scenes and the same trend followed in other BRC productions too.

In Shrimad Ramayan Rama and Lakshmana are glued to their bows. At times I would be silently pleading for them to keep those bows somewhere...

Also, Rama and Lakshmana took their divine bows, weapons and armour with them to exile. They wore armour in all the wars and fights. They weren't restricted to using bows and arrows. Rama and Lakshmana excelled in all types of warcrafts. Valmiki Ramayan mentions Rama being adept at riding horses, chariots and elephants and being skilled with bow and spear and every other weapon. All brothers were excellent but Rama was the best of them all.

True. The styles may differ but that was pretty much what the dresses those days were.

Tube blouses/regular blouses shown in TV are more convenient and easier to handle and more modest in today's society. Actresses won't be at ease without such modifications. They can act freely with blouses rather than being cautious all the time. Also, those days women did have a sort of upper inner wear. I am not sure which era it started but maybe Tretha Yuga had something rudimentary.

And both men and women wore flowers, at least in South Indian/Dravidian traditions. I think the same is true for Aryan ones as well.

I don't really have a favourite. Each one had his/her charm. Ram was picture perfect, Sita was divine, Lakshman looked exotic, Urmila was pretty and bright, Bharat looked elegant and classic, Mandvi was young and beautiful, Shathrugan was the lovable youngest and Shrutakirti was the sharp youngest sister. Each one was good in their own way and I can't choose one. Not just here but in any production. I don't really have favourites. Sometimes I might admire a particular trait and that's about it.

Yes and also in certain wars in Dandakaranya.

And they weren't clean shaven like shown in the series. They weren't supposed to shave or style their hair (that applies to Ram and Lakshman naturally follows).
