Your Introduction to cricket

Hello friends,

We are so emotionally attached to this game and today's fan culture makes me curious to know what's the reason that we take these cricketers so seriously and literally worship them, what I think that it is something related to how we first connected to the game.

I will share my story of getting introduced to the game and I hope you all will share yours.

So, 2011 WC was the time when I watched my first cricket match, and I have to say more than the game it was Yuvraj Singh who kept me hooked to the game, he was fighting cancer at that time and his passion for his country was what inspired and fascinated my 13 year old self the most and apart from him the victory and the emotions of the people amazed me.

After the WC yuvraj Singh become my fav cricketer and the reason to keep watching the game, I followed Pune warriors, KingsXI and SRH because of him and when SRH won the trophy David warner became my motivation to watch the game for the obvious reasons (those who knows, knows) and after him it was Kane Williamson.

My introduction to cricket was through my cousin brother. They were watching cricket in the TV, that time SRT’s inning was going and since then started watching cricket. Also coz my dad used to play cricket with my cousins and then he used to watch and talk abt cricket too so yeah

When I was in school, my brother used to watch a lot of sports. We used to argue over the remote control of TV.

After that I ended up watching all the sports he used to see. I started seeing tennis, car racing, cricket etc. Liked Sehwag and Sachin, Dhoni s batting and the entire team when Dhoni took over as the captain.

I don't remember seeing the first few seasons of ipl. Was busy with college and then work i guess.

Started seeing after watching Dhoni. I see all Sehwag s old innings also.

Now I enjoy discussing stuff with IF cricket members. I still discuss scores with my brother.

I started watching cricket when Sachin was captain of India ( Saal yaad nehi hai tab mein school mein thi ) My father & brother were huge cricket & Sachin fans but i started watching cricket only for Dravid My first crush

I remember it, I think I told earlier too

We weren't allowed to wake up late as we used to have school pretty early and used to leave house by 6:10-15 AM

I remember we had got off for some reason so I was allowed to wake a bit longer that day.

It was the CSK v KXIP Dharamshala Match. Six of Dhoni's and then he hits on his helmet after winning the match are still in my mind.

I became his fan then and there, later I got to know he is from Ranchi like me.

People didn't know much about Ranchi in school and class, but he made Ranchi famous. It made me like him even more.

I only used to go to Ranchi in school time in summer vacations which used to be IPL time, when Dhoni wasn't in Ranchi. We used to go from the front of his house (before he shifted to the farmhouse).

I don't remember my first memory of watching cricket cause my father used to turn on cricket match or highlights when my mom is feeding me food since I was very very young.

I used to like MS Dhoni a lot. I actually kind of remember watching him from his debut. I just liked his unorthodox batting very much!!

I watch Dravid's innings highlights as well!! After few years when I started understanding cricket, I started liking Ashwin. Now, my respect for bowlers increased very much!!

Everyone at my house watches cricket. So I started watching from there. I don’t remember the exact moment though but I used to watch since my childhood

My cricket started because of my brother..He made me a left hander as thats how he made me grip a bat But I'm glad because lefties r so elegant 😍

But i guess ur question is related to watching cricket n nt playing!

Ok so i remember watching towering sixes of Saurav Ganguly - especially him dancing down the track and smashing whateverz thrown at him...those sixes n his elegance made me a huge fan of him...He literally made indian cricket 😍 Indian cricket was in dire straits back then - reeling under match fixing and sachin wasnt enjoying the role of captaincy much...But dada took over n made our team reach Pinnacles...

And ofcourse many more memories - ajay jadejas shots were a treat back in 90s too.... Azhar was very elegant too and imo still the best middle order batsman produced besides yuvraj...

And yes how can i forget yuvraj - hz my hero and the sole reason i remained interested in cricket after dadas retirement!
