There are more positives than negatives in this show. It has healthy relationships, is realistic and somewhat relative, and not crazy dramatic. Here are some positive things to point out:
- The leads: The ML is ICONIC. He's raw, rugged, and real. He has seen life, suffered through it, and is now pushing to make his life better. He's loyal and acknowledges the people who do him good. He's not selfish, but selfless and values kindness and love. Sure, you could call him violent, temperamental, and even a drunkard, but he has solid reasons. Constant neglect and abuse from his own mother, abandonment by his father, juvenile prison for a crime he didn't commit, an ungrateful family, constant rejection and judgement, and being collateral damage in every single thing that goes bad, Sachin still turns out to be a man of character. He's often mean, but he has a good heart. He loves his father and grandma, and calls them his only family until his wife waltz into his life as his biggest burden turned prize. When Sailee stepped in, his life truly changes. He finds real purpose. Sailee is just his, and she cherishes him back. He never really said it out loud (at least while being conscious), but he loves her. She's family and a person who respects him, even looks up to him at times. He doesn't control or dictate her, and he acknowledges how much she takes care of him. She's hardworking, very family-orientated, and strives to balance family and work. Marriage isn't in her plans, but when tragedy strikes, she accepted it. The girl puts in effort, even when she has every reason not to do so. For Sailee, life would have been better without Sachin. Yet still, she works to make it work. They have a normal, realistic relationship that grew on its own pace. From denial to rejection to acceptance, they went through it all. Love didn't have to be the first step; it was acceptance. Sailee and Sachin, as of now, have a beautiful relationship that only grows stronger after each fight, misunderstanding, and avoidance. They learn from their mistakes and actively try to not repeat them. While he understands and supports her, she stands with him as his biggest armor, cradling the heart that was always vulnerable to his mother's verbal assaults.
- The other characters: Nobody is a 100% villain going out of their way to murder the leads. They are normal people; albeit, some insanely toxic. Renuka is one extremely shrewd person who does not hesitate to cross the line in betitling Sachin and Sailee because of her unreasonable hatred towards people she sees below her. However, she is capable of loving her other two sons just like a normal mother. Nobody is 100% positive either, like Paresh Deshmukh who had abandoned Sachin as a child and made wrong choices out of guilt. Roshni, the selfish sister-in-law, and Riya, the kinder sister-in-law, are both well-written characters that balance each other out in bringing negativity and positivity to the show. Tejas excels in his ability to be useless and highly dependent while Akash is coward in front of his families but able to take risks to get what he wants. There is no winning or losing; it's like a normal middle-class family with common and somewhat relatable issues. The partiality between sons, sometimes done subconsciously in real households, is also observed in this show.
- The pace and plot: It's perfect. It isn't too slow with too many filler episodes or too fast where the audience can't even take in what just happened. I do think that the romance between the leads need to be more highlighted so the chemistry could truly build though. They are mostly tackling day-to-day issues. I also like how Sachin-Sailee-oriented the show is. The plot revolves around them and it is nice to see them overcoming their struggles and actually growing from their experiences. Each track has significance and is entertaining.
Every show has some flaws; so does Udne Ki Aasha:
- There is too much of the saas-bahu drama. It would have been fine if Sailee stood up for herself, but Renuka always crosses limits and Sailee endures more than retorts. There is absolute no reason for her to do so, especially since Sachin is the main breadwinner of the family. It gives the wrong message that girls should endure just because she is the bahu. There are three daughter-in-laws but Sailee is the only one who does all the chores while working too. The show needs to highlight how wrong that is. It doesn't matter how many people support Sailee and are positive if they don't help her. Renuka needs to be punished for what she says and does to Sailee and Sachin.
- Scenes really need to be shot at real locations without the CGI usage. There is honestly too much of it, especially after 100 episodes. It's obvious they are on a set and it messes up the continuity (i.e., Sailee's maternal family's flower stall is sometimes in front of a temple in open space and other times in a closed set, different temples). When Sachin is driving, the CGI is very obvious too.
- Sachin's dream of opening his own taxi stand is no longer mentioned. It's like they completely forgot about it. I believe this show would be better if they show Sailee and Sachin enhancing their careers than revolving around saas-bahu drama. Their main plot should be about Sachin and Sailee making a name for themselves - about the struggles, hard work and dedication that comes with it for middle-class couple. The show started with a unique concept and should continue as such.
Here's my take on this show. I don't think it's everyone's cup of tea; some would find it boring because of its realistic approach to situations and maybe irritating for the saas-bahu stuff it is highlighting. I personally love the show and believe that every show has its pros and cons. They still have a chance to fix their cons. I know it is a remake and I do not know if they are completely following the original (I hope they do), but they should allow Sailee to have a backbone. I'd love to hear other takes on this.
