I think all other established actors have declined this drama..and even if they would say yes, what could have they done extra for Sadaf's character which is supposed to be unlikable in the first half...and if you talk about overacting, than Maya,Usama,Amar,Hira Mani all have done overacting which is director's fault..in the last 2 episodes,I didn’t find Maya's performance faulty.
The character of Sadaf is suited for someone like Mehwish Hayat or Saba Qamar 10 years ago. These are the only two FLs I can think who can play a character that is headstrong, impulsive yet also appear strong, principled but also vulnerable, resilient - all at same time - without veering into badtameezi or looking dumb, petulant or bipolar. It is something about their aura I guess.
I have mentioned before as well but Sadaf's character is in some ways similar to the cktr Mehwish played in another KRQ drama MannJali. In it, Mehwish goads Faris into eating broken glass and has dialogues like agar mard ke bacche ho toh etc... but you don't hate her. That's what I meant when I said Mehwish has that aura also that she somehow manages to play such characters without making audiences hate the cktr. Maya's aura I feel is better suited for softer, likeable, more girl next door characters. When Maya plays an unlikeable cktr, she makes the cktr really unlikeable for audiences. In Yunhi, I warmed up to Kim when Maya played her softer, more vulnerable side. But in those episodes when Kim was being judgmental, Kim came across as very unlikeable (more than the script intended) even though she had good reasons to be like that.
Having said that, there is a limit to what even Saba or Mehwish (of 10 yrs ago) could have done with Sadaf. The writing is so weak and the director has done zilch to salvage it (making it worse in fact) that even they couldn't have saved Sadaf completely. Even if their performance was that much better.
