I have been saying since beginning SMD is more like KRQ's drama Mann Jali.

In Mann Jali, Mehwish Hayat is a middle-class, headstrong, impulsive dabang girl. Faris Shafi is her cousin who is a nice honest gentle guy who loves her madly and selflessly. Mikaal is the son of a rich man who is ayyash. He drinks and has marasim with women.

Faris tells Mehwish he loves her but woh usse attitude dikhati hai. one time she goads him to eat broken glass to prove his love and he does. She has feelings for him but khul ke nahi bolti. At her friend's wedding, Mehwish runs into Mikaal when he is drunk. He does badtameezi with her and she answers back. Mikaal Mehwish ko neecha dikhana chahta hai. He manipulates Mehwish's father with money that I want to marry your daughter. He also manipulates his friend who is married to Mehwish's friend, and Mehwish's friend then tries to manipulate Mehwish upon her husband's insistence to marry Mikaal. Mikaal even buys the call center where Mehwish works.

Mehwish and her mother do not want Mehwish to be forced into marrying Mikaal. Mehwish Mikaal se bachne ke liye Faris se kehti hai mujh se court marriage karlo jaldi. Faris gets beaten up by Mikaal's hired goons on his way and Mehwish thinks Faris abandoned her, and gets married to Mikaal. Faris returns from hospital at Mehwish's rukhsati and sees her leaving.

On suhaag raat, Mikaal is drunk and taunts Mehwish about Faris. He is very insecure about Faris. I think he even says the chura kar laa hoon line that Ammar said. After shaadi, Mikaal continues to have marasim with women. He has one gf but is also hitting on another girl in her dad's office, He is not a good husband but Mehwish gets along very well with Mikaal's parents who are very nice. Meanwhile, Faris has met a woman. She listens to him, helps him with job and it seems they will marry. Faris goes abroad.

Mikaal's dad fires the girl Mikaal is trying to pataofy. Mikaal takesthat girl to a beach house where his other gf shows up, and he accidentally kills her. Mikaal goes to jail. Mehwish gets divorced. Last episode, after time jump, Faris returns from abroad. She thinks he is married and it upsets her. Then Faris tells her he never got married and he still loves her and they get together.

In this, Mehwish is main lead. Mikaal is villain but is main lead with Mehwish because before wedding he does a lot of manipulations to get Mehwish. After shaadi, he also has his marasim with women and we see his scenes with them, plus his scenes with his wife and their tension. Faris who is the pure selfless lover and the one Mehwish ends up with in the end has less screentime than others because he rarely drives the action.

By adding all those filler scenes of Wahaj (where he is brooding and looking sad) and repeat scenes of last episodes, the have tried to pad Wahaj's screentime but based on writing alone, Bilal = Faris in Mann Jali (with a bit more screentime) whereas Sadaf = Mehwish and Ammar - Mikaal. The role of Wahaj was not intended to have been played by someone of his calibre but someone of less stature than Maya but same stature as Usama.

Do you think there is any possibility of bilal sadaf buildup of romance ? Ya phir sab kuch last episode mein hi milega?

technically hero heroine maya wahaj hain coz they end up together, like in mann jali it was mehwish and faris who were hero heroine. but in terms of screentime narrative importance who drives the plt, it was the male antagonist who was more important. like in darr, sunny and juhi were hero heroine but zyada screentime or importance srk ki thi.

Because krq can't write shows. Mpth blew up because the woman was cheating. Otherwise all his shows are borefest (I haven't watched any, nor do I intend to watch) he is just so overrated.

Only because of humayun he is getting work otherwise no channel cared about him, neither hum nor geo.

Interesting story. Why did the writer even consider Wahaj the lead? He didn’t even mention Usama. I feel instead of adding in scenes of Wahaj just walking and thinking, they could have just not stretched out the other scenes. Honestly if that was done right, then maybe he would only be missing in one episode and be light in about 2…maybe 3. The stretching out of the other scenes is what is making his scenes feel even more sparse.

If Haseeb the 2 Rs director had any brains, he could have used filler scenes to add more depth to Bilal or give some lollipop moments to audience.

Hear me out. Bilal works in same office as Sadaf. He can't always be locked in his office. No hotelier is. He didn't need to deliberately seek out Sadaf or give her attention but it would have been inevitable for him to cross paths with her in the hallway, lifet, parking lot, meeting room.

They could have had filler scenes like this:

• Bilal is at a party thrown by an industrialist, but he says no to alcohol being served. Or you have a shot of him at the party looking like a man who is lonely while still in crowds or putting up a pleasant face while feeling sad inside. It would also establish that as an industry titan, he has to socially network with other industry bigshots, politicians, etc.
• Bilal is waiting for the elevator. It opens, and Sadaf is there. They look at each other. Sadaf looks uncomfortable. Bilal senses her discomfort and says I will take the next elevator. We get moments b/w leads, but it also establishes that Bilal is respectful and keeps away. Sadaf seeing Bilal in the office and having these run-ins can be shown to add to her desperation for why she wants to marry Ammar. It is like she feels something, and it's growing, but she mistakes it as discomfort. Or she thinks Bilal is deliberately stalking her in the office, making her more paranoid about his intentions.
• Bilal is at a hotel construction site with his team, including H, S, A. S gets lost or walks without thinking to the edge, but only B is attuned to her movements and holds her from falling/getting lost. S was shown as someone jo dekh kar nahi chalti, toh it would have fit her cktr. It would have shown us how attuned B is to S, even when he is not looking at her. His saving her would have amplified S's emotional turmoil.
• Bilal is having a meeting in the boardroom, which has a glass enclosure, and he looks up to see Sadaf working on her desk through the glass walls. He gets distracted until a comment by someone in the meeting pulls him back.
• Sadaf is presenting at a staff meeting, where Bilal is present. Bilal looks impressed. Sadaf is glad but also suspicious of his vigorous clapping. You establish Sadaf's intelligence and Bilal's appreciation of it, but also amplify Sadaf's worry.
• Sadaf is in the car park fumbling with keys and can't open the car. She looks nervous as Bilal approaches. Bilal stays back, and sends his driver to help out Sadaf because he senses her discomfort.
• Bilal is doing walks on the hotel floor, checking operations. He sees Sadaf walk by with the corner of his eye or do some other task on the hotel floor. Their eyes meet, and they immediately look away.

Haseeb completely did not use the workplace and professional element to give more depth to characters and give Sadaf-Bilal moments. Filler scenes like the ones above would have shown hotel operations and made us see Bilal in a working context. Those interactions with Sadaf could have been done to reinforce Bilal's gentlemanliness but also to add to Sadaf's confusion, paranoia, and desperation.

Instead of giving the same type of filler scenes where Bilal is looking mopey and broody in bed, by the pool, on the table, in the garden, lying on sofas, playing piano, fondling khambas lamps, glasses, leaning against walls, staring into fireplaces and windows, etc. Haseeb could have fashioned filler scenes that at least added to the story instead of being beauty shots of Wahaj giving same 2-3 expressions.

It seems like we are not getting bilal sadaf anytime soon...and everything will be in the last episode..I am not interested anymore tbh..Wahaj's character is stuck ...and other characters are not interesting to watch..

IDK why I was being overly optimistic with this show

The dosti dialogue made it seem like there will be buildup between them. Also idk where have all wahaj scenes scenes vanished. The first ever bts of him with that blue pajama isn't aired. He had a scene with the escort girl where he's wearing formal outfit and she's wearing casuals, that isn't out. He had a selfie with the office guy, which seemed like there was a scene with him and that too isn't out yet. I mean what did wahaj even shot from Nov end to Dec end??? Was haseeb so slow that he just shot one scene in one day

ididn't mean to scare you. i don't know what's coming. i just told story of a krq drama where i always some similarities with smd. but mann jali was never promoted as story of faris shafi and hise selfless pure love for mehwish jahan woh uske pyaar main sheesha bhi chaba kar kha jaata hai yaphir jiska pyaar aaskhir tak qayam rehta hai.

Actually true. I tried to watch MPTH and I was so bored. I think I skipped the last couple of episodes. And I binge watched it like last year. I didn’t get the hype. I wasn’t impressed by Humayun either. But I’m in the minority in this opinion.

Even after knowing the hype around mpth, I just couldn't continue watching it after first epi because it was sucha borefest for me. I was already very skeptical about smd being written by him and being directed by Haseeb the misery fest director and my fear turned out to be true. Both of them gave wahaj his biggest and first disaster ever with geo and overall.

Under the maya usama poster post of reddit, I saw everybody say that wahaj got his biggest paycheque for smd so screenspace doesn't matter to him.

I wanna know how are the actors paid in pak. Is it on the basis of the number days shot for the show or the number of episodes of the show? In india mostly for the leads, the payment is on the basis of per episode. Actors like Harshad Chopda took 3L inr for one episode, Rupali Ganguly must be taking home a whopping 4.5 to 5 lakh inr for one epi and her show is a trp topper.

If wahaj is getting 5L INR for one day and assuming he has shot for like only 40 days for smd. Whereas usama might get anywhere around 1.5 or 2L INR for 80 days he shot. So wahaj gets 2cr inr and usama gets 1.6cr inr (80x2) or 1.2 cr inr(80x1.5) for smd. Just 40 or 80 lakh inr more he gets from usama.
