Oh damn😂😂 Too much truth said all at once.

I think the reason for this downfall is the shift in India’s priority as a whole. With the emergence of Social media, Instagram, in particular, everything is about views, visibility and money. Creativity, respect, modesty and talent are no longer considered important. But this is a false notion created by PR firms and social media as a whole. Till how long can someone just eat with the eyes.. Ultimately presentation can make a dish win only until it’s not tasted.

Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek Bacchan both are products of Nepotism but AB stopped doing mainstream movies within 5-7 years of his launch after failing back to back. That is acceptance of the audience’s will. So did likes of Tushar Kapoor, Esha Deol, Zayed Khan, Fardeen Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Akshay Khanna. Their repetitive rejection by audience was respected as withdrawal from the industry. Most of them, mind you were the sons/daughters of actors 100x bigger than a Chunkey panday or Boney kapoor.

But now with the Instagram’s fake idea of “everything can be curated/created” people like KJo are trying hard to push the talentless lot of nepos down the audience’s throat. Most money of BW was spent on paying the PR team of these people than paying talented filmmakers, writers, directors, cinematographers, actors. But BW needs to understand while moments of sensation can be scripted, consistent success which likes of Srk, Salman, Preity zinta, kajol, aamir, juhi chawla etc enjoyed cannot be CREATED. It’s achieved through talent and acceptance. By respecting that a film is made not just by an actor but the whole crew.

SRK did a film Fan, though it flopped but it had the biggest message for any film industry, Love and stardom and success cannot be purchased. It’s won through hardwork, smartwork and destiny. And everyone who participates in a film making process is a part of that destiny and success. A film is never about an actor.

What we lack are good scripts, original music, and a lack of connect with the masses.

We also lack dependable young male stars. The last breed of strong actors with screen presence and X factor are shahid, Ranbir and Ranveer. And they’re not even young!

Someone(stupid) told the producers that now the way to make money is not by selecting talent from 1000s of auditions but take a talentless guy and market him as the star of the coming generation. Sadly the suggestion is failing big time and everyone is clueless.

A film is a team effort, helmed by the captain who is the director.

It's not just the current breed of actors who are talentless, it's the entire team which is equally worse.

When we had Amitabh Bacchan, Sridevi, SRK, Madhuri

We also had Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Sonu Nigam Shreya Ghoshal Hariharan and Alka Yagnik.

At the same time we also had Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, Salim Khan, Kader-Khan as script and dialogue writers

And we had R D Burman Nadeem Shravan Jatin Lalit

We had Ajit Amrish Puri Gulshan Grover Shakti Kapoor Johnny lever

Then we had Manmohan Desai, Yash Chopra, Sunil Darshan Prakash Mehra, Ramesh Sippy

Today the entire team is talentless and sucks big time.

Everything is a remix or remake and whatever is original is underwhelming.

I used to watch a new movie every month once I started earning. And I would be happy for the money spent.

Today going to a theatre and watching a bollywood movie seems like a waste of money and watching it on OTT seems a waste of bandwidth.

i think audiences have gotten a bit smarter. Earlier they had a sub-80 IQ and weren't very discerning. Now that their IQ is hitting 80, the same old nepo trash won't do. smiley17smiley36

In Bollywood, the audiences just want to be entertained. The problem of overthinking is the actual problem. smiley4

There is a lot of factors that have contributed to bollywoods downfall… the top contender is lack of identity of Bollywood, according to me. Just ten years ago we had movies like YJHD or Sultan or Bajrangi Bhaijaan… there were quintessential BW movies with songs, larger tha life characters rooted somewhere in reality, that was enjoyable to watch. It had great music, and watching it in threatres was fun! The acting wasn’t pathbreaking but the sum of whole movie was greater by its parts.

Today, we have lost the touch that makes BW movies “ours”. The storylines are straight south remakes or movies that should be on OTT. Ekta once said there are stories people love to watch alone, in their homes or in theatres. With rise in OTT, and options it brings forth, people think what works jn OTT Will work in theatres… and producers lose money and then they stick to senseless sequels or crime/biopics.

The nepo kid argument is valid to some extent but the same nepo kids in telegu are delivering results and biggest blockbusters and varun can’t deliver a 10 cr opening or Alia’s can’t open more than 5 cr with corporate bookings. BW needs to understand it’s metro and rural audience and make movies that appeals to them…

Nepotism is one side of the story. Lack of proper stories, wanna be hollywood with scripts, actions, is another side.

The pulse of Indian audience is rooted in values, drama, close to reality and OTT action, among some. BW forgets that one can make a movie for mass and class, if handled well.

I wont waste my breathe on Nepotism debate in BW. Nepotism exists in all regions of Film Industry and in other regions, if Nepo kids cant act, they vanish from industry most of the time, its acting that counts, "Merit"
