Preity Zinta is a competent actress and easily once of the cutest and most effervescent actress to grace the screen especially in her earlier years. And while perception of her acting skills might be subjective, it is almost funny to read that she didn't take diverse or complex roles. In fact she was the one who was known for taking unconventional roles as compared to her contemporaries in the starting 3-4 years of her career before she entered Johar / Chopra camp.

It was only after entering Johar / Chopra Camp that she became proper conventional mainstream actress. Even after that she played a single mother in live in relationship in Salam Namaste which was quite bold for its time. Also barring 2-3 movies she signed very early on in her career, you would never see her playing a flower pot or inconsequential roles.

Maybe perceptions have changed now, but if anyone was following bollywood she was in her prime, they would know she was known for being strong and unconventional on screen as well as off screen, be it testifying against underworld don when no one else in bollywood dared to or suing people who treated her unfairly when generally actresses don't want to be a part of such hassles.

And while I haven't followed her properly in years now, I know she has been criticised for some of her statements dealing with women. I don't know if it was faux pas, or misrepresentation or her views have really gone through a transformation; but it came as such a surprise to me because she was one actress who has been very strong, advocated for women to be independent and spoke strongly against issues like eve teasing and how victims of sexual abuse have to go through a insensitive and humiliating process in order to seek justice. And all this was in early 2000s.

But she’s a b minus actress , so doesn’t matter what itsy bitsy strong roles she did ..

Don't understand this obsession to praise an actress by demeaning another one. Both are good in their respective roles...and they definitely made different character-choices.

Why not just love and laud Rani and being happy for all her good performances...

Agree , Rani was as usual stiff, very filmi with kabz wali zor lagaati awaaz, in front of Preity's excellent natural performance.

If a total natural Preity is B minus, than Naato is C minus performer with her in your face filmi acting, fake expressions, ever weeping eyes and gaddhay jaisi awaaz may kabz ki haalat may zor lagaati.

Awww...why did you open the topic if you were not ready for essays? Did you think everyone would just dumbly agree with you without putting their points across? I am not bothered how many scenes you post to display her supposedly bad acting, not going to make any difference to me nor going to change my opinion.

She overacted a lot. Most of her performances were shrill and loud. But she did act well in some movies, was popular at her time, and has some nice songs in her filmography.
