Episode discussion 23-24 November

Like every season, I’ve started a thread to discuss this weeks episodes.

I missed saturdays episode, so my comments for today’s episodes only.

Firstly, this week seemed much better than last. Last week, there was a sound issue that the contestants weren’t very audible and could barely be heard over the music.

My review for today:

1. Shubhajit- sanson ki zaroorat. He was very good. His singing is so effortless. I watched his performance last week as well, and I must say his singing sounds very unadulterated (no gimmicks or show off).

2. Priyangshu - khamoshiyan- I remember his audition, and since then I’ve expected more from him. This song has been sung every season for at least the last 4 seasons and nobody comes close to what Revanth did. I think he set a benchmark for this song. Priyangshu added his own to the song, but it didn’t work for me. Even last week I felt very let down by his performance. Don’t think he’ll stay long.

3. Vishwaroop - zara si dil mein de jagah/ tere dar par sanam- he sounds very mechanical. Good surs and all that but emotionless. And the judges noticed that too. He does tend to show off at times. He’s very easy on the ears and can go a long way if he adds more ‘feel’ to his songs.

4. Chaitanya - Mann ki lagan - he sounds so pure (not sure if that’s the right way to explain it). You can tell he is well trained, his singing is restrained and there’s no showing off his abilities. Very soothing to listen to, but not something I’d pay to listen to (if that makes sense). I’ve heard this song on many reality shows, but his sounded so different and I quite liked that.

5. Mayuri - tum aaye to aaya mujhe yaad /ghunghat ki adh se- she was a surprise for me. I don’t remember her from the audition and missed her performance last week as well. So I was stunned with her performance. She’s ready to be singing in the studio. Her performance was faultless.

6. Srijan - dil ibadat. Good performance, can’t find any faults. Not a wow but that’s because I’m not a fan of the song.

7. Sneha - tum itna Jo muskura rahe ho. I think she’s overrated. She has a very different voice quality that I quite like, and she know what songs suit her, so plus points for that. But there were so many parts in her singing that were underwhelming. She does the same harkat/ aalap is every song. At this point all her songs sound the same.

8. Forgot his name but he was a runner up in telugu Indian idol - missed the first song I think it was kehna hi Kya and the second was roop suhana lagta hai. Since I didn’t hear much of his song, I can’t comment much but what I heard sounded good. I have a lot of expectation from him, especially after his audition and last weeks performance.

I absolutely love songs from Mahesh Bhatts movies and don’t mind him coming every season, but at least the contestants should be given different songs. Id really like someone to sing Galyat sankli sonyachi, everyone sings slow songs but something different would be so nice.

Badshah so far is very likeable. Although id have preferred a more knowledgeable (in terms of music) judge.
