Any child can grow up to dislike their name and have a desire to change it. If she only dislikes her name because it's a Muslim name, that seems unlikely considering her parents are not bigots and she's not likely to be brought up in an environment where she's taught to hate Muslims or feel ashamed of having a name associated with them. BW is very secular so the usual religion rhetoric that exists in most of the country is something the BW elite is immune to.

I hope I didn't put you on the spot or make you feel attacked.

I'm just glad they didn't name their daughter after one of Deepika's roles like many people were speculating. I felt that was unnecessary because their daughter should have her own identity rather than be Leela, Veronica, Shanti, Mastani, Piku, Rubai, etc.

It is interesting though that both his first two kids (Pooja and Rahul) have Hindu names but his daughters with Soni both have Muslim names (Alia and Shaheen). Maybe they felt the need to honor how their marriage came to be.

Yes, good point that Kiara also has the name Alia. It's always interesting how blended Muslim and Hindu cultures are for so many of these celebs. They rarely ever identify as just one thing, a true depiction of a secular country. Kareena and Saif's kids must be the most blended since they have Hindu, Muslim, and Christian backgrounds and upbringings.

And that her sister, Ratna Patak Shah, is married to Naseeruddin Shah, so it shows what a small world Bollywood is. Learning that Shahid's mother is a Muslim explains why his brother, Ishaan, also has a Muslim name.

Coz Alia is a British Citizen, she has a British passport. She is born and brought up in India and has an Indian father so her parents had an option of her being British or Indian, they chose British. Soni Razdan is born in Uk so her kids are eligible to being British citizens.

So that's why Alia is always taunted online for not being a real Indian but a British citizen. I thought it was just because of her mother's mother being European. Didn't realize Alia doesn't actually have Indian citizenship. I see Akshay taunted for the same reason as he had Canadian citizenship most of his life.

Does this mean Alia doesn't have to pay taxes in India?

As for the Muslim name debate I see lot of my Muslim friends naming their kids amelia or Amanda which itself is a Christian name. Another popular name is noah though the Muslim version is nooh. So I guess people just name their kids whatever they feel nice. And in Deepika’s post she did mention dua means prayer so answer to their prayer. She might have felt some connection towards the meaning hence the name. Even raha is also a Muslim name though it has meanings in other languages
