Honestly, and the horrible part is that the romanticisation of this nonsense. There is an actual decent person that genuinely respects the FL's will and wish and guides or helps her in any way they can after taking into account her will and wish, and then there are these lover boys who do everything for FL without her knowledge and consent and fans just keep supporting them.

I am just glad he realised it in the end and actually confessed straight up that he was doing so because he was scared of losing Sitara. That is character growth right there.

Exactly, they forget and treat female characters as if they have no autonomy. Had the Hyderabad incident never happened she had her won dreams her own career to look forward to, of which only her choice matters. She should have had the opportunity to date anybody whom she likes. college days are for you to explore yourself and your choices. Experiences are what shapes your character. But no, since slaar was the end game, so any reason to ship them is good enough. Acha hua baad me uske charcater ko redeem kar diya, he valued her consent, even married her with consent, and respected her enough to ignore her tantrums. But that doesn't negate that the stodl a life from her that she could have had , if not because of trauma. I

While I do not think Sitara could have or would have dated given her background, but certainly, if the entire debacle had not happened, she would have had her independence and choice of suitable groom, higher level of education and maybe able to pursue a career of her choice, which itself would have been a novelty given the fact that her elder female cousins are actively solely focused on the marriage market.
