Rich tycoon ML, over bubbly chirpy FL who works for ML and starts calling him with strange names. ML is initially irritated by the FL, but slowly starts appreciating her when some MU happens and then he becomes a beast....
Later MU clears and then they start loving..
Her shows have physical assault at the drop of hat, Qubool Hai me don't know how many times Asad hit Zoya(and she wasn't even his gf), IPK you already said, Ishqbaaz me Shivaaye mistreated Anika but pinning her onto bed and literally putting his legs beside her, DBO me Omkara did something similar...
So called progressive Zoya or Anika only wore modern dresses, else were exactly like Khushi
It's about choices but I personally don't like such demeaning behaviour being forgotten without a mention at the end... All the more romanticizing of such behaviour.
I think the TV shows are actually degrading the women empowerment thing with passage of time. During lockdown I saw some 80s shows of DD and the women there were much more progressive in thoughts. To be honest I think even Tulsis and Parvatis of 2000s were more progressive than now...
Ekta raised the issue of marital r**e in 2000s...
Itv's feminism and female empowerment in current time is only lip service, in reality there is nothing progressive they are showing. Their feminism is all about putting women in pedestal where they do no wrong, and can face and defeat all wrongdoings in a jiffy and enhance their victim hood by making character around them (especially men) super toxic and devil. Nowadays, we have 2-3 character template for women in order to sell them as strong, independent, resilient women. That's one of the reason characters are so bland. Somehow it's always men's character who need all the lesson and enlightenment. Today's fl have agency (the only thing that changed) but they make the same choices which were happening in 20 years back to show how mahaan they are.
The kyunki, kasauti, kahaani of 2000's are may be melodramatic, dragged, and catered to many societal stereotypes but the Tulsi, Parvati and prerna were actually quite empowered woman compared to today's fl. Also, vamps of that time whether it's ramona, komolika or aparna are deliciously evil 😈 and intresting characters.
