In the era I was at school,racism towards coloured folks was at its peak.It was bad,it was major.
We as kids had to watch our backs going out to play in the fear of being mobbed and racially abused by the neighbourhood white kids.There was this one time my brother got bottled over the head by some white kids in just going to the corner shop just to get some bloody milk.
And mind you,back then, political correctness wasn't even a thing like it is now.These days you'd get pulled up for the slightest of things so you got to be careful what you say and how you word things.
However,I have not experienced being dictated to by my fellow Muslim pupils on what to wear and what not to wear and how to dress accordingly to them.
And the other thing was,I was never brown enough for the brown ppl and not white enough for the whites, so in most scenarios in my childhood days growing up, I found myself to be quite a misfit in group setups.
I never wore hijab as a kid, and I still don't wear one, so this ideology that a hijab is a must has never sat well with me. It should be left to a matter of choice.I wear what I want and dress how I want.It if isn't modest enough for some,then tough.Deal with it. #MyChoice.
But that does not mean to say I am dismissing or undermining the treatment your daughter has experienced or faced.
The thing is, you have to understand that, that was a different time and this is a different time.Things do change with time and with the way the state of affairs are around the world with all the religious hate spewing, your daughters experience isn't actually that baffling tbh.Religion has become like a serious thing ,whereas before, nobody took it that seriously or practiced that ardently AFAICR.
