a different take here - i don’t think rubi is obsessed with armaan himself but the idea of being loved by someone and now that has turned into her “zidd”. in the beginning of the story, armaan was the one who pursued her first which evoked something in her. she liked the fact that someone was giving her attention and armaan being armaan, went above and beyond like a puppy aashiq telling her all these lovey dovey things. were they ever true? who knows and it seems unlikely seeing how armaan has evolved. i think it was armaan who was just attracted but ruhi who fell for it. she got addicted to the nice words and the feelings associated with it and misunderstood that as armaan’s love for her when it was simply attraction. armaan was a red flag for her since day 1, when he lied about his family, wasn’t consistent for her for a date, and so on. her addiction to feeling loved, something that came out from her childhood issues, drives her to do all this and she needs help with her insecurities. armaan fed into it more when he could’ve closed the chapter after ruhi/rohit engagement but instead went into this track of being a “one woman man” and loving ruhi for his entire life and ruhi being the only girl in his heart. he essentially manipulated ruhi into thinking - you go and marry whoever, you will be the only one in my heart. that caused ruhi to be more into him; who wouldn’t be if he’s expressing this type of love for you? and so she fell harder. till then i want to say that she was in love/had feelings.
then when armaan went and married abhira and disappointed the family, ruhi felt betrayed that he denied ruhi of revealing their relationship/marriage for the same reason that he is facing now willingly for abhira. i think this is when her “zidd” started that she will achieve the right that she was denied of. and from here we see all the faulty things that she has done. i think this is where her character arc goes from lover girl to desperate and will do anything for love girl. it wasn’t the guy anymore, it was her ego battle. AND it doesn’t help that in the beginning of armaan and abhira’s marriage, armaan was the one who fed into this more. he could’ve stopped it being the very mature person he is, but instead he fed into it knowing that she will not recover from this especially with all the other trauma.
armaan was able to move on because he knew that a future with ruhi was not possible, and he still had her in his life the way he wanted to. and he knew deep down that he wasn’t actually in love with her. ruhi held onto armaan’s words and misunderstood them as true love which armaan’s actions fed into. he was able to fall in love with abhira because he also had another girl to focus on. ruhi on the other hand did not so she was able to continue to obsess on her “zidd”. i’m sure if she had any other responsibilities or relationships, she would not be this way. and she was also in the PH so armaan would constantly be in front of her eyes and she made this her life mission. this “zidd” to be with armaan is overpowering her actually wanting to be with armaan. i don’t think ruhi would actually be happy with armaan if she were to marry him. he’s just showing her the nice sides of him, not the sides that abhira has seen. i think her self esteem would go more down in the dumps if she were with armaan. she needs someone like rohit who can show her the light and happiness in life.
and now that her ego’s been bruised once again, watch her double down into that obsession to achieve that “zidd” by this way or that way. unless if they give her a character arc that is towards getting better emotionally and actually doing something with her life.
