I swear, now I understand, he meant what he said in that interview.

He enjoys babysitting Abhira, as she is a child.

Warna tum bolo, koi aadmi apni biwi ke saath 10 months room share karne ke baad, bed share karne ke baad, koi feeling na ho...its impossible.

I am pretty sure, he just sees Abhira as some brat whom he needs to keep in line. And coerce his protection when required.
