Now, since my esteemed Guru Vidya garu has said we don't talk about the countdown scene enough. Let me pour my thoughts out!
Firstly, can't say enough but yes... Kudos to Krushal who did that scene so well! And also, to Hiba who complimented him.
The initially amused Ani who playfully asked Jhanak to close her eyes to count 10 immediately understood her plight seeing her fret even before the injection.
The change in his tone from a strict Mentor/friend to an assuring and soft, empathetic partner was so evident and well executed by Krushal.
As he counted from 1 to 10 maintaining an eye lock with Jhanak to support her, his timbre changed ever so slightly into a more mellow nature. His breath also hitched a little, partially in response to seeing Jhanak's complete trust in him like a kid, so unassuming, and partially seeing her pain as his own in addition to his unexplained but not unwelcome attraction to her at the moment in time.... Such complex and layered emotions Ani had throughout those 10 seconds.... I have no words. The way at the end he said "Ho gaya" to Jhanak in such a delicate way to her query. His eyes tinged a little red, his small hesitation in the end which I think he wanted them to last longer... seeing Jhanak so vulnerable and so ingenuous is probably a first for him. I think that made him a little giddy on the inside. He likes it when she trusts him so completely, it's heady and addictive.
Ye Lamhein aise hi rukh lein....
Jhanak was also so good.... her expressions became more unguarded as she was lost in Ani's eyes to the point, that she could not feel the pain of the needle in her skin. Her small voice and the pauses accompanying it are so subtle... you can feel and see her palpitations and fear vanishing slowly as she comes to lean on Ani's guiding voice as if his unmasked care and love hypnotized her. Her tone when she asked him "Ho gaya?" with her eyebrows slightly raised... a moment of complete nakedness. And Ani's repeated and soft reaffirmations broke that spell with her immediately jolting back to reality, that intimacy gone and her shock setting in. Well done, Hiba!!!
BEAUTIFUL.TIMELESS. INTIMATE are the words that come to my mind.
I don't think I have ever seen a countdown scene so tastefully done that left such an impression in my heart. Makers really did well with this one.
To say, I think we need more moments like these between Ani and J, not because they are romantic but because it is a way for Ani to see how Jhanak is towards him in real outside her artificially constructed rude facade for society's sake. A way to directly experience all those facets of her she never really shows otherwise, ones he and his family suppressed so successfully in so many ways, that is very reminiscent of her life before the greatest tragedy.
There you go! Essentially a chicken soup to nourish that part of our souls bound to RuNak inadvertently.
Edit: I think this song suits perfectly they can actually play it as BGM for the scene.
