Both were fair collaborations but it so happened that Salman ended up coming off better than his co-stars. In AAA, Amar was the protagonist but Prem stole the show.

In Karan Arjun, Arjun was your typical "hero" by Bollywood standards. That's why Ajay rejected the role of Karan. Yet, it was Karan's character that had the depth. He had better character motivation. Karan's character traversed the "Hero's Journey." That's just how narrative theory works.

It's like Sholay where Veeru was the "hero," but Jai's character had more depth and intensity.

The most emotional moment of the movie is "bhaag Arjun, tu bhaag." And the most cathartic is when Karan recalls his past life.

Bollywood had a very wonky understanding of characterization at the time. The "hero" was your cookie-cutter character with good intentions and a "heroine" to chase. That was Arjun.

Karan had shades. He had an arc - from an abusive father to bring a mercenary killer to reuniting with his brother to finally avenging his mother's tragedy.

At the time, I don't think even the screenwriter or the director expected Karan's character to impress audiences when Arjun had the typical Bollywood "hero" role.

While Aamir and SRK are both better than Salman in acting, they never wanted to collaborate with him again as parallel leads after AAA and KA. In AAA, Salman was much more endearing than Aamir. In Karan Arjun, Salman accidentally landed the meatier role because of how Bollywood defined "heroes" at the time.

Anyone who saw HAHK then it is obvious that even though movie is good and Salman acted very well in it and it may be highest cos of lot of other factors, family drama, Madhuri, songs, the dog, emotional etc...but can it really be the ultimate Salman movie?

See many Salman fans don't think that HAHK is ultimate movie of his even.

There are other movies where he literally owned the movie by his swag and more and those can be his ultimate movie.

And hope TZP or Laagan or QSQT or 3 idiots in that order is for Aamir in the remaining.

Bajrangi bhaijaan was salman best work. No idea how HAHK won.
