Abhimanyu was a divorcee and Arohi was a widow at that time while Akshara and Abhinav were legally and ritually a married couple. No comparison between them and what's the equation with Ruhi and Armaan now. Also everyone proposed marriage for Abhimanyu and Arohi for Ruhi's sake. Still they didn't get physically intimate scenes like how Ruhi and Armaan getting now when no one in the family knows about their affair

Armaans response to Abhira being ill was better in bts. Thanda tha episode. They focused on how he leaned on Ruhi for comfort, let her sleep on his kandha and holding hands. I would say all this was started by Armaan divulging his marriage secret of 1 year deal. He started the cycle. Armaan is not capable of putting her in place nor is he willing to reveal his growing closeness with Ab to Ruhi. And without any of these Ruhi gets a free pass to whatever she feels like.

His care for abh is not fake he genuinely cares about her and ar told ruhi to go back but she stays there abh ar are attached to each other when abh is awake he without realising run towards her
