@bold Preach. I don't remember who'd said that in some other thread but her living this created fake reality will indeed hit her like a truck someday. I don't want to wish bad for her (or anyone's) career but it honestly won't be shocking to see her being nowhere soon. Because most of her success is an image created by her PR and KJo, and then the media follows suit. She'd be nowhere without KJo.

Even her box office failures are portrayed as successes because of KJo's backing. Gangubai (181cr budget and 126cr nett business), RRKPK (160cr budget and 150cr nett) and Brahmastra (let's not even) being successes is utter scam. They've conveniently used the worldwide figures on Wikipedia to save face lmao (and before anyone starts talking about Fighter, yes Viacom is doing the same with ww figures, I'm not deluded about its general underperformance 🤓).

But yeah, you can be shrewd in a world where you have backing, PR and media are invasive but that does not get you the love and recognition of the audience

It's telling that all those names you listed, I was able to instantly recognize which actress played them and which movie the character came from. You mentioned Katrina's Jazz later on and I think that's another one of her memorable roles that I see a lot of people appreciate online. Jazz especially hit it off with NRIs. Meanwhile those names for Alia, you have Shanaya who is a watered down version of Poo but literally without any appeal and I have zero idea who Mehnat is lol.

People don't always give Katrina credit as an actress but considering her background and how Hindi is not her first language, it's not a surprise that she's not very versatile and can't play every type of regional role. That doesn't matter because in her own niche of roles, usually NRIs or foreign background characters, she's very successful and at the top. No one can do modern dance or action like she can. And who else can say they were immortalized as Yash Chopra's last heroine? Katrina knows her strengths and weaknesses which is why you don't see her play regional heroines or village belles.

Meanwhile Alia plays Bengali in Rocky aur Rani and if it weren't for the cast playing her family, I would have no idea she's supposed to be a Bengali. Nothing about her looked or screamed the part, she was playing herself just in a more colorful selection of saris. I saw people online saying that her saris were more talked about than her actual character or acting. When your entire cast of co-stars and your own clothes upstage you, you know you have a problem. And this, ironically enough, in a film that was so-called written for her by her godfather. Everything on paper should have been perfect for her to ace this role but she couldn't even do that.

This is what has shocked me the most and why I have to question if bots are involved or not, because I cannot imagine anyone who so blindly believes in the PR tactics of KJo and Aloo that they resort to coping mechanisms that all the negative attention to Alia's FF win is because of Deepika's PR.

Like someone had the audacity to say that Rani is a has-been and has no fans anymore. The misogynistic nerve. Is it really easier to believe that Rani, Kiara, Taapsee, Deepika, etc. have no fans and it's only Deepika's PR making up claims that these actresses were better? In this whole world, those actresses have no supporters at all because apparently it's ludicrous to think Rani has any fans? This idea that only Deepika fans are angry at Aloo's manufactured win and are pretending to like the other actresses is so insulting to everyone involved. Rani and Deepika easily have fandoms that outnumber Aloo's anyday. I'd argue even Kiara and Taapsee have more legitimate, if not larger fandoms online, because theirs don't rely on PR. And Taapsee in particular has done films in all kinds of cinema so she has broader, pan-Indian appeal.

You don't have to be a Rani fan to say she was deserving of the win. You don't have to be a Kiara fan to say she was deserving of the win. You can not be a fan of someone and still feel that they've had a superior performance and appreciate them for when they have done well. What's most telling about this coping mechanism is that it means that Aloo fans are so insecure that they've never been able to offer a genuine compliment to any other actress who is not their favorite. As such, their mentality has been warped enough that they cannot imagine other actresses' fans could do the same. They have to resort to their fav excuse, PR. I find it very sad and even lonely that they think this way.

Katrina may be having a low phase right now, but overall, she has definitely left a strong mark as a star; what an amazing run she's had despite having her acting panned throughout most of her career. That is another thing that actually says a lot about her appeal

Absolutely true about everything you said in RRKPK. Tbh minus the sarees, her look was no different from that of her character in Badri Ki Dulhania. There was nothing that naturally and consistently indicated her being Bengali, and that's the difference with Deepika who actually succeeded in doing that with Piku imo (I'd add that it also showed the difference of depth between KJo's craft and Shoojit Sircar's tbh).
