Alia definitely comes across as a better actress but it is also true that her filmography lacks any iconic characters like DP has Shanti Priya,Naina, Mastani,Leela, Padmavat,Piku etc or Katrina has iconic songs to her name or Anushka has blockbusters.

Can you name the top 5 characters Alia did so far without googling (excluding the recent Rani which is still fresh on mind thanks to the Filmfare)?

with Salman it’s Salman Katrina my 😍 pair as all know Sal-Kat rocks !! though don’t mind Jacqueline then it’s Preity, karishma, madhuri, shilpa, sush, almost most 90 heroines. Preity in general I liked with srk, salman, hrithik, and amir. I liked her bubbly ness n offscreen she was good with the khans esp Salman and he calls her zinta which is sweet.

Fully agree, she's simply a bit better than the current mostly mid to mediocre ones. Like the standards themselves are so low now. Otherwise she's so mid too, Brahmastra and Kalank highlighted a lot of that. And not to forget the gem Heart of Stone - she was absolutely horrible.

Her only genuinely good performance for me was Gangubai. Raazi and Udta Punjab were fine but when you've seen so much better than her in the past, like PC in Fashion and Barfi, Rani in Black, Vidya in TDP, Kareena in Chameli, Omkara and Jab We Met, even Kangana in TWMR, it's nothing impressive.

Also I never understood why Preity isn't considered as a good actress? I loved her and found her refreshingly natural especially in Dil Chahta Hai, Koi Mil Gaya, Mission Kashmir, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Veer Zaara. To me she is way better than Alia. And Kajol is definitely better than Alia.

She is deficient in every way. Lacks any iconic roles or movies. Name any actress from the 90s/2000s and you can probably list multiple famous roles for them. Not just famous movies, but actual character names that they played because they're so beloved for the characters they portrayed. These actresses each have iconic pairings with major actors that are remembered to this day.

What iconic pairing does this one have? Varun a flop star? Ranveer? Everybody prefers him with Deepika or Anushka. Her own husband who she has absolutely no chemistry with?

As others stated, none of her movies have rewatchability. 90s/2000s movies are still rewatchable to this day over and over, as much as we may make fun of them for being outdated. The Salman and SRK tournaments are proving that since the top winners so far are all films from that era. This is true even for the modern actresses like Katrina and Deepika who don't always get ranked in the 90s/2000s generation. People still adore Om Shanti Om to this day. Same with Piku or Cocktail. Katrina has her movies with Akshay and Salman like Namastey London and Ek Tha Tiger. So it's not just a matter of eras because even contemporary actresses have proven that they can have iconic and beloved films past the 90s/2000s era. Look at all the outpouring of love for Parineeti's Hasee Toh Phasee or Anushka's Band Baaja Baaraat. Even Sonam has Raanjhanaa and I see a lot of love for Khoobsurat online as well.

The songs from decades ago are still playing and on our lips whereas the songs from this one's movies disappear from thought by the next year. Everything she does is purely mediocre. She is a mediocre actress, mediocre dancer, has mediocre chemistry with co-stars, and is even mediocre in looks. Ask any rando on the street who their fav actress is and it'll be a 90s/2000s actress. Ask them who they think is the most beautiful or hottest actress and it certainly won't ever be this one.

And of course how can you be a top actress if you've never been in an all-time blockbuster or had the highest grossing movie of the year? Deepika and Katrina can attest to this multiple times over. Whatever you may say about them as actresses, they have starpower and are worshipped by their fans and the general public. Who worships this one?

Remember Amrita Rao's comments that when the public generally likes you, you don't require PR or a godfather to become a star or beloved. The public makes you a star. This one never became a star on her own merits. The public never wanted to see her elevated, it was only her godfather who gave her that status and because Bollywood was in a lull the last few years, we were forced to accept her being put in every film. All film roles that were literally curated for her so she could succeed in them, and even with these roles being practically made for her, they are not memorable enough for the public to care about. She is the epitome of a PR manufactured creation which is why all her box office "hits" like Raazi, Gangubai, Rocky aur Rani, Brahmastra, have been exposed as having had their BO numbers inflated to make them perceived to be hits and to create a false narrative that she has power as a solo heroine. I don't understand how anyone can fall for this narrative because all you have to do is go outside in the real world and talk to real people and you'll see there is no fanfare or fervor for her. In Sridevi and Madhuri's time, they truly had that box office clout and audience adoration. You can expose this one's "starpower" in an instant if you don't pay attention to PR nonsense gushing over her with fabricated BO numbers.

On the contrary, I can see DP pulling off some of her characters with ease. The only film AB was genuinely good, to me was Razzi. Otherwise, none of her characters are nothing to write home about. As for Gangu. That's SLB's character. He is a Taskmaster. It won't be far-fetched to say that if it wasn't her, whoever he would have chosen would have delivered because he makes sure they do. Alia has a great filmography. Hand picked. That doesn't mean she is brilliant. Her films gets the hype because they are from known production house & comes with solid marketing. Just replace her discography with say Janvi, Ananya etc. I'm sure everyone would find her just as bad as them.

she is and was great in her debuts dil se with srk and solider with Bobby both movies which I can watch to this date esp solider. She also won an award on best debut when the awards had prestige and she was an outsider and was lucky to not only work with the khans but Hrithik and others

She gets mentioned less now only because she's been off the screens for so long and because she doesn't live only in India so you don't see her at every BW party like other retired actresses. Whenever people do remember her movies (as we've been doing with the SRK tournament) you can see the love people still have for her and her films. She had wonderful chemistry with basically every actor she worked with: SRK, Saif, Hrithik, Salman, Aamir, Arjun, Bobby, etc. I would have liked to have seen her with Shahid because I feel they would have made a cute match.

I said this in another thread, but people underestimate her because she was known for being bubbly and cute. People forget that even this takes acting because not every person can pull off these roles and be taken seriously or be considered likable. The bubbly heroine niche is a very important one in the BW industry as we saw Juhi do it in the 90s and then later Anushka took that role over. I said before also that I feel a lot of Anushka movies like Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Band Baaja Baaraat, etc. are the types of films I could easily see Preity doing.

Another thing she was adept at was playing different nationalities like playing a Punjabi kudi or Pakistani woman. Most people are not familiar with her Canadian film, Heaven on Earth, which was completely out of the box for her. She plays a Punjabi immigrant to Canada in an arranged marriage who experiences abuse but finds solace in magic realism. Very un-BW type of movie and very subtle acting, not like her usual strong heroine roles like in Salaam-Namaste or KANK. She was nominated for Best Actress at the Canadian version of the Oscars. I think this makes Preity the only BW actress to ever be nominated for another country's highest acting award. In the English language film, The Last Lear, which also featured Amitabh Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, Divya Dutta, and Shefali Shah, she was also excellent as a not-very experienced actress desperate to be taken seriously in the industry. Another little known film today despite being considered Big B's best performance.

Meanwhile today we have actresses who play so-called Bengali women and don't even bother to put on an accent or change anything about their style of acting, yet they get rewarded with a Filmfare (and this same actress was just as miscast in 2 States).
