First time?
They've been champions 3 times and reached the final as recently as 2018 (when they lost to Shaw and Gill's India)
Remarkable scenes in Benoni. Almost every Pakistan player is down on his knees, while the two batters roar in celebration. They're soon joined by the rest of their teammates. Spare a thought for Pakistan, for their 15-year-old superstar Ali Raza who gave it everything and was outstanding again with the ball. They had just 179 on the board to defend, and they not only made a match out of it, but almost pulled it off. There was just one wicket in it. But it's Australia who prevail and will face India for the trophy on Sunday. Tom Straker was the star with the ball for them, returning with figures of 6/24, while Harry Dixon scored his third fifty of the tournament to steady the innings after being 56/4.
Tom Straker | Player of the Match: We got it closer than we would have wanted. After I got out, no one was moving, everyone was sitting on their seats and it was pretty intense out there. (On his bowling) Pretty proud, especially those last two wickets, I could finish it off early. Credit to us the bowlers to bowl them out for under 180, it was a pretty good effort today. (On bettering Rabada's best bowling figures in U-19 WC final/semifinal) I didn't know that, I'll take that one. (Extra belief because of this win?) Probably not, we had pretty good confidence throughout the whole tournament and leading up to it. So, pretty similar.
Saad Baig, Pakistan captain: Difficult to be the losing team, but we were short by 20-30 runs. We put in 100 percent effort. They played well. Boys fought really well. The way Ali Raza bowled was brilliant. Throughout the tournament, our bowling was good in the tournament. One team has to win, one has to lose, that's the game.
Congratulations to Aus U19 for reaching the finals.💛
Pakistan captain, Saad Baig: Difficult to accept as a losing team. We were short by 10 or 20 runs. We put in a lot of effort, and we played well. Boys fought really well. The way Ali Raza bowled was brilliant. All the team fought really well. I think that we were short of runs. The lack of runs, maybe 15-20 runs. But we played well, fought well. But Australia played very well. All the boys throughout the tournament were brilliant. Our bowling was really well in the tournament. As a captain I am proud to be leading a country. One team has to lose, one has to win. Doesn't matter.
