Part 25
G- Who is it?
Lady A- It's the handsome g... boss. Boss is here!!!
Maan glances at the face of lady A in without a word and rushes to the bedroom
G- What are you doing here??!!
Geet is shocked seeing Maan in front of her
M- That is not important.
He walks in gently & sits near her legs making sure to avoid disturbing them.
He startes at her red swollen ankle and moves his finger to touch it.
But then stops a few centimeters away.
M- Does it hurt?
G- No…not much... I took a painkiller.
Maan sits still, his hand hovering over the swollen skin but not touching.
Geet covers the injured site with a cold compress blocking Maan's view, as well as his fingers.
G-By chance... is it possible that... are you... worried... about... me?
M-What? Worried? I am angry, ok?
Geet nods in understanding. Although why he is angry didn't make any sense, but the thought of him being worried about her was simply absurd.
They weren't in that sort of relationship.
M- I told you to stay at the hospital and rest but you didn't listen. Moreover, you didn't even go to the hospital as soon as you got injured but instead insisted on finishing work!! I can only be angry at this point.
G- I have responsibilities towards my work. And I know my body. I knew I wasn't badly hurt. That’s why I- forget it. I don't want to explain you.
M – That’s because you cannot explain stupidity.
Geet rolls her eyes and looks away, finally regretting getting hurt. Now she can't even run away!
Maan lets out a huff and very gently touches the cold compress.
M- it really doesn't hurt that much?
Geet removes the compress and looks at her own ankle. There was little swelling, but it didn't look badly injured at all.
G- Really doesn't hurt much.
Maan sees that Geet’s fingers have also turned a bit icy red from holding the cold compress for so long.
He takes away the compress from her.
M- Let me do this.
Very lightly. Putting almost no pressure on her skin. He gently pats the cold compress over her ankle. Not letting it touch her skin for more than 10 secs.
After every few pats he would confirm if - it's fine? Is the pressure okay? If it hurts still
Geet reassures him every time that it is fine.
Having someone serving at her feet. She relaxes against the headboard and closes her eyes.
Although Maan brought all sort of cunning and crazy to the atmosphere; he also brought a sense of responsibility that once anything comes into his hands all will be fine.
Once things turn a bit quiet. A hungry ruble sound from the Geet's stomach was extra loud in the room.
Maan continuedshis task without a pause.
M- Where is your assistant? Tell her to bring dinner in here.
While the two had been arguing initially lady A had waved at Geet from the bedroom gesturing that she was going out.
G- She just left-
M- What? Left? How irresponsible! Just cos I am here doesn't mean she can dump everything on me, pat her ass and leave!
The remaining words – ‘left to get my dinner’ -- died in Geet’s mouth.
This man didn't even listen before starting to complain. What was his problem? Geet thinks.
Then she remembers her assistant telling her that she had rejected the Maan's call and blocked his number earlier today.
G- There is no food delivery right now...she will bring take-out from nearby street food stalls.
M- How can you eat outside food?! That too street food when you are injured? Isn't it common sense to eat healthy and clean food and recover faster.
G - I want to eat good food too but I can't cook right now.
M - Tell your assistant to cook.
G- She can't cook.
M - What? Can she do anything right? Why did you hire her?
G- She doesn't gossip and works diligently. Also, I didn't hire her. You did.
M - Me?
G- That’s what your assistant told me.
Maan shuts up. Indeed, it was his idea to hire someone.
M - Anyways those dirty things can't be eaten. Tell her not to bring that back.
G- What dirty? Food is food. Besides what do we eat then?
M - It's decided no street food. Since there is no other option then I’ll cook.
G - You can cook?
M - How hard can it be?
G - Very hard.
M - Then come up with a simple dish to eat.
G - Listen to me; it's just a meal, no need to be so picky. Accidentally you can get hurt or burned. Let's not complicate things.
Maan takes out his phone and opens the chat interface with the doctor. it had bunch of information on precautions during recovery, medicines, and food for faster recovery.
He hands over his phone to Geet to read.
M - I can boil and peel eggs and make salad. Anything more complicated, you decide what to make.
Geet looks over the info and considering Maan's stubbornness and her hunger and first-time cooking chef, comes up with an optimal solution.
G- Even if you are willing to cook. We haven't bought any ingredients, and I am hungry, and I don't want to go shopping right now.
M -The pantry, fridge and utensils are all stocked.
Geet gives up. Looks like she will have to suffer through broken leg and stomach at the same time.
She quickly runs through what could be cooked easily and decides Scrambled eggs with some pre-smoked salmon was good option.
She tells the recipe to Maan.
He gets up and goes out to start cooking.
He takes off his suit jacket, tie, cuff links. Undoes the collar button and rolls up his sleeves.
Opening the fridge, he sees three types of eggs. Unsure what to use he brings them into the room for Geet to see and tell.
Once the eggs are decided he takes out the fishes and brings them to Geet again to see and tell which one to be used.
Next, he thinks of the ingredients and the spices and then he sees the plethora of different skillets and pans and spoons and knife.
This uphill task looked steeper.
He goes into the bedroom and asks Geet.
M- Why don't you come out and sit near the kitchen. I may have doubts from time to time.
G - Alright... yeah, that would be better.
She starts to get up and hop out but gets interrupted by him.
M - Shall I help you sit outside?
G – Yeah. Thanks.
She thought that Maan was gonna help her lean on him and hop out.
Instead, he suddenly picks her up bridal style and walks out.
Geet lets out a surprised yelp at this sudden turn of events.
Maan looks at her.
M - What is it? Did I jostle your leg?
G – No…nothing. Just..surprised.
He carries her out and carefully places her on a comfortable single sofa.
He helps her keep her foot elevated by setting up a short table and cushion.
As the kitchen had an open floor plan, Geet can easily see what he was doing and answer his questions.
As Maan picks up the egg, the Geet interrupts him.
G- You should wear an apron you know and also wash your hands and the eggs.
He nods and obeys quietly.
This wasn't his territory so it was better to listen to the expert.
