More than age I think what matters here more is education. Abhira is an aspiring lawyer, in fact she would be a full fledged lawyer in 1 year. They can't show her as a brash person. Lawyers are always into planning plotting thing. They know how to handle situations.

From whatever I have seen in the show, I haven't seen him indulging in EMA and he doesn't even give mixed signals to Ruhi ever. It's her who is obsessed with him (coz Rohit is missing as well). He very politely keeps her at arm's length.

Him growing a spine will come later I guess. His character is not supposed to be "rude" and angry young man types. He is a softie who just beefs with Abhira from time to time 😂
