Jugjugg Jeeyo did average at the box office. Good Newwz was Akshay's highest grossing movie in India. Kesari was also a hit and so was Dhadak. And surely you haven't forgotten how successful Simmba was? And let's not forget the topic of this thread, ADHM which thankfully did not star You-Know-Aloo either.

I didn’t forget those movies at all

Clochette made the claim that Karan’s penalty for “mistreating” Anushka was that his studio nearly flatlined. I just wanted to see if it was an accurate claim 😃

Co-producing she said. None of these films were directed by Karan minus ADHM which worked because of Anushka and Aishwarya, not Karan's man-child avatar who committed sexual assault.

Rocky Aur Rani is his only directed hit since then which stars Alia. But even that was only a major success overseas but not domestically. Films like Simmba and Kesari have little of the Kjo touch. Rocky Aur Rani is purely his film and it was only his good reputation built on his films with SRK that made it the success it was overseas.

Also Karan here specifically relates himself to Ayan.

After very sheepishly being forced to admit that Ayan was physically aggressive before trying to clear him of all blame and blaming Alizeh instead.

Wilhelmina was the hurricane which did a lot of damage at the East coast...

The issue also was that he didn't really research about USAmerican behaviour during Wilhelmina...and also after the Twin Tower destruction...it was a bit a kind of superficial judging going into the movie. I think, with better writing it could have been an Oscar movie (a bit like with Dunki now, imo). Hirani had the cast at hand and a very good topic but I think he made some faults in storytelling (although, to me, it's still a fine movie).

I remember Hurricane Katrina but not Wilhelmina.

I saw the movie last when I was very young so I probably didn't think anything was very inaccurate so I'm curious what I would feel now watching it. Although I was also under the impression that he didn't write the movie.

I don't remember if it was considered for the Oscars or not, but it should have been. Same with Dunki now imo. I'm even more on the side of open border now after our genocidal president, who was elected on the basis of not building a wall like Trump, has now decided to try to appeal to Republicans by cutting down on immigration. Films like Dunki would be lost on him.
