I also have more hopes on Nimrit as she too must have realised somewhere about Rajeev behaviour . Earlier in one scene where Rajeev came with dupatta he said whichever will match her skin colour you put it for some ritual. There Nimrat expression was little sad so she may start doubting.
The actress who plays Babita did mention that the Ahujas are under pressure due to some faults in Nimrit, and this will be disclosed in future tracks. Obviously she sees Nimrit as a big liability and burden to get married off. Did Babita have something to do with what happened in Virat's past? probably was a 'non-classy' enough girl for Babita and she succeded in messing it up for him.
Most probably Babita would have selected a girl who was classy, but things unfolded later when she turned out to be greedy. Look at Rajiv. He seems rich, but still has some hopes of getting business deals with the Ahujas. (Dont think the Cvs thought through everything properly. They have to show content for all 7 freaking days). Virat would have deeply loved her, but got his heart broken with her deception. He says time and time again, that he doesnt want to get hurt with another girl. Of course, when she comes back, they may show that she loved him, but was forced to break off the relationship due to some unforseen reasons. But that's the future track.

Like I explained to Adiandsid, either Babita selected a rich, classy girl who turned out to be even more greedy and maybe left Virat due to some unforseen reasons (she got a richer BF than Virat and became pregnant with his child).. or she was a middle class girl and became close to Virat only for his money. True, he said that. But we don't know in what sense. He isn't class conscious - so not expecting 'rich' or lack of it to be a problem. One guess is he looks at Amruta as 'talkative and argumentative probably even dominant / strong willed' type. So may be he meant in that sense.

Oh... had seen a clip of hers in the show. didnt know she was the 'ex-wife'. 
My impression on seeing the clip was 'thank God! Sriti isnt doing this one'.
