People are complaining coz it's SRK IF deol devgn or Bharat Kumar had been in this movie would have praised to the highest level

Although I'm well aware that the perception of a same movie can be very different on the feeling level (which then gets 'explained' with the brain), Dunki in no way deserves the kind of bashing some indulge in.

I don't have an interest to compare Dunki to other (Hirani) movies, except for what you mention in term of familiar scenes seen in other SRK movies. He is doing it for years - linking his work through allusions to other of his movies (depending on the subject). It makes me smile as it gives me the impression of the journey he did these more than 30 years with very distinctive stations and proceedings.

You write about boundaries in the political sense nations made out of economic reasons but there are also the 'boundaries' people make up in themselves which get quite flexible when in the own interest. Some of those individual 'lands' I fly over as I've lost the interest to land there...in others - in the contrary - I feel fine, I feel the human spirit I cherish. Your 'land' definitely is one of them, not because I agree but because of the way you express yourself.

Thanks for your writing smiley27

Edit: I don't know why the tagging isn't showing in the post because it shows when writing the post... (I just quoted a small part so others know that it is a reply to you...)

What a sweet message to post. It warms my heart that you enjoyed my review. It came straight from the heart because I had so much feelings inside after seeing the movie that I needed a way to positively channel those emotions. Enjoy your Christmas Eve!

I am not a huge Hirani fan. As I said in my review, I enjoyed 3 Idiots, PK, Sanju, etc. but the only one I've seen more than once is 3 Idiots and while I've seen that a lot and like it, I think it's a bit overrated. So I came to Dunki not with any expectations for a Hirani film but with expectations for a SRK film. The fear-mongering here did make me a bit afraid that I might not like it but thankfully that was not the case at all. In general, I rarely pay attention to directors as my focus is on the actors themselves and I see movies for the stars. Probably another reason why Animal would not appeal to me because the director means nothing to me.

Definitely appreciate the allusions to SRK's previous films. It's a nice way of comforting the audience about his legacy of films and how they're all intertwined in some shape or form, each building on the one before. I can't think of any other star with that same legacy, certainly not even Salman or Aamir. Which isn't to disparage them because I like them both but the feeling of watching a SRK movie is very different in comparison to theirs and I think that's especially true for international audiences. He resonates with us in a way that the others simply can't, just starting from the way that Dunki opened up with Taapsee's name billed first. A small gesture but a consequential one nonetheless as it reaffirms that his heroines are not ornamental and are valued.

Yes, good point about the boundaries we create ourselves and manipulate to suit our self-interests. Once more, thank you for sharing these beautiful sentiments with me especially about affirming the human spirit.

Smiley gets so repetitve that I've decided to just do that (not reading most of the posts...like with the repetitive 'cherry'). It's my choice to deal with their constant negativity...just refusing to take it...because I can...

Choosing...also a prominent subject in Dunki...

Repetitive in different forms....maybe different names too?

I watched this movie last night and honestly, I don't know what they were trying to show here. This movie was all over the place. Not that I look for logic in movies, but this movie was heights of illogical nonsense put together in a sub-standard screenplay and presented to us as some Hirani masterpiece.

Second half was much better and tolerable than first half as it had some really good emotional scenes and some some of those scenes make you want to weep as well. So yeah, kudos to them on that aspect.

Now coming to the atrocious first half, WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY SMOKING? When interval came, I had made up my mind that even that crapfest Pathan was better than his movie. The jokes were dated, the screenplay and writing was dumb and the monologues, gosh💀💀💀

-------------Some rant on scenes-----------------

Apart from Vicky's story, no other character had a reason strong enough to go through Dunki where survival chance is less than 25%. Either they should have established that these characters were fooled into dunkying or their Backstories should have been more hard hitting. Like wtf is "My mom has to wear a pant to work everyday and that is why I am ready to get killed " 💀💀💀💀

Also, did anyone here really laugh at those classroom scenes , drunk SRK scene and that scene where he goes to Sardar guy's mom and tells a fake story about his marriage? The ONLY good scene before interval was their interview scene and Vicky's emotional scene.

Post interval, there were many great individual scenes like the Dunki journey, reality of immigrants in UK, and then post leap scenes when they come back to India.

The worst scene of the movie was courtroom scene which made absolutely NO FREAKING SENSE. What was that monologue man? You don't want an asylum then just say no. Why would a judge grant you illegal immigration just based on your emotional speech? That speech would have made sense had he said it to his friends only. Also, why do they want to insert patriotism and nationalism for absolutely no reason in a movie where is in NOT NEEDED?

Also, they made those police officers in Jeddah look like absolute clowns. The twist was good but the scene was so so so lame. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

The last scene was BRILLIANT and brought tears to my eyes. Both SRK and Tapsee did great there. Also, when they meet at the airport, it was a complete rip off of Veer Zara courtroom scene but nicely done with good music.

Overall 2.5/5 (out of this 2 is for second half and 0.5 for first half)

I know what is meant...but personally, I don't see the star without the acting...it's just a different way to get presented...the actor is there...always smiley27(in so many different ways - from very subtle to overdoing)

If a film recovers its budget and earns even a marginal profit, then that by definition is a hit. What other metrics are there to call a film a hit lol? Most producers manage to get a safety baulk from streaming rights and tv rights, that's why pitte huye directors keep making movies.

And I don't even care because Hirani is a trash human who shouldn't be legitimised.
