Ranbir's character faces no repercussions for what he did in fact there will be part 2 with this character saving his family 🤦‍♀️ Ran Vijay wasn't presented as an anti hero, his actions were glorified and justified in the name of love for his father and family

For example -

SRK is celebrated for Darr and Baazigar but his characters weren't glorified, people loved his performance but characters didn't have a happy ending

Ranbir and bobby were both presented as shit people and bobby being the shittier perosn which is why the climatic fight is like a person almost fighting a clone of himself …someone as obstinate and crazy

You are absolutely meant to despise both …the massiness comes from the intensity in their performances and filmmaking …not the henious acts committed …

Btw people also whistled in the theatres when srk creeped the hell outta juhi in darr…dosent mean they are endorsing that …it’s a sign of them enjoying the performance

Do share your review, did you like Kabir Singh?

I did. The songs and his court room speech. An shahid/kiara had alot of chemistry. I’ll have to see how this film ends with this apparent larger than life psycho hero smiley36

While I wish every movie maker in BW was Krishna, the art and artist are not the same.

Regular audience doesn't go to see Hirani's movie because he's a metoo accused.

Audience goes to see Vanga's movies because he promises them violence, against women in particular.

There is a huge difference.

There are a lot of misinformed opinions on this thread. Those who are vehemently saying there's no glorification, I'd suggest you watch the movie first. Violence per se or portraying violent men/actions is not the problem, but targeted violence against only one sex in order to humiliate and degrade is troubling. There is absolutely a way to present violence without making the audiences puke their guts out, unless it's a slasher/gore film intently made for that market like - Saw franchise, The Hostel etc. Animal was definitely not made with that intent, yet you see elements from those movies playing out in Venga's universe.

After a point, it does feel like Venga had made a laundry list of all trigger points of violence and abuse faced by women, and made it a point to include all of them. Not withstanding the violence and problematic bits even, it's a crap movie.

I honestly don't see the diff you clearly do when this movie's success is being celebrated by feminists. How do one purport to be disgusted/horrified by the violence against women in a movie and still celebrate its success?

I am really struggling to understand the perspective of "celebrating Ranbir's performance and success, not the movie."

Firstly, the movie and the protagonist are inherently tied together. Secondly, and more importantly - where is the moral line? How far can our favorites go till we can continue to celebrate their work in good faith? If SRK had done this role, I would have criticized him and refused to celebrate it. I'd rather celebrate my favorite in a flop but meaningful movie than success with such a moral cost. I know the line is different for different people. But knowing the things said and done in this movie, I find it unconscionable that Ranbir fans, especially those who consider themselves feminists, would support it. It just feels so extremely disappointing. It's just another thing that deeply shakes your faith in other humans.

Srk has done roles where he threw women off buildings, strangled them, tortured them, emotionally manipulated them, hit them to mark his territory (yeh he hits paro in devdas to put sindoor)

A lot of his films with such acts had vengeful, tragic even romantic undertones to them

Let’s not pretend like we have never seen toxicity in cinema that was celebrated …and won several awards and box office records

The cinematic experience is not the same as the moral takeaway from the film

I honestly think there's a huge market for violence, anti hero and "masculine" men, and by masculine I mean in a negative way, in the fiction world, be it books, movies or TV shows. It's undeniable. And if someone enjoys such movies, it's not fair to label them violent or toxic. It perhaps comes from the age old primal, ingrained idea that men are supposed to be big, strong, violent protectors. I am not at all for censoring people's freedom of art but there will always be a few bad apples imitating fiction. If we start censoring fictions, there would not be a Jawan too as a group would argue it promotes vigilantism & crime. Perhaps, we should be talking more about why we're scared that fiction would shape up adult humans' perceptions! What's lacking in their intellect to differentiate between fiction & real life or good and bad. I know it's easier said than done. But threads like this which outright degrades women for merely watching Animal and being happy for the actor's success will only worsen the problem.

Show me one woman who's celebrating glorification of violence. Just one by name.

Nope.

If it was only my opinion then I'd think again but I have seen reviews of so many male critics who said that they relate with Vijay because they love their fathers as much as he does

Even Abhisar Sharma, a senior journalist gave a review and said that the character loved his father and his wife

Only here, I have seen a take where you are supposed to despise both that's why I am freely expressing my views here. You dare say anything against it on Twitter or anywhere else

About Darr and Baazigar, SRK dies in both, his characters don't have a happy ending

On the other hand in Animal there's a part 2 and from the beginning of the movie you can tell that this man has lived a long, happy life
