There is no hero here ….his dad laments that he gave birth to a criminal in the movie …his wife leaves him after trying her best to slap sense into his head …he is not shown as any semblance of a normal human

And some of those atrocities are done by bobby deol who is shown as the most disgusting man of all time’s …a clear cut villain

Just because the characters are played by leading men of Hindi cinema, dosent redeem or celebrate these acts …

people celebrating ranbirs performance is not the same as people celebrating his character …let alone violence against women…no one is celebrating that

It’s like saying the Oscar’s celebrated violence and drug abuse and toxicity against women by nominating wolf of Wall Street …

Ok. You can pretend that the movie doesn't make Ranbir's character out to be a hero.

Oscars do many things for publicity and ratings. As one host said, if al Qaeda opened a streaming platform, HW A listers would be calling their agents.

I was, however, talking about the support this movie is getting from the very group it is victimizing to show the toxic hero in a good light.

Exactly this.......I don't know why people can't celebrate the praises and accolades their favorite is getting....and at the same time don't support the disgusting character he played.......2 different things...right??

I remember at the time of Padmavat......odes were written about Ranveer for his performance as Khilji.....Khilji was an actual person......a disgusting one....did all the people who went gaga over Ranveer's performance supported Khilji raping and killing a woman minutes before getting married?? I don't think anyone did.....no one in their right mind would.....

I am not getting this shaming and judging women who are celebrating Ranbir's success....

why just women … we can say men are celebrating too. Just say “people stop celebrating this movie” why make it exclusive to one sex that’s problematic while also throwing in words like feminism

Yep it dosent make him out to be any hero…otherwise he’d not show such ugly disgusting scenes which obviously repulse

As vidya balan said in a Roundtable discussing why she liked shahid as kabir Singh …”don’t try to tell me what my voice should sound like”

Because women are the group being victimized, and some of them are celebrating it. I won't be surprised by dogs eating chicken. But I would be horrified by hens eating chicken.

The Animal thread on IF itself has plenty of peeps supporting the movie, most of them women. So does general social media.

Yes, you are right. Everyone has the right to support glorification of violence against women, Vidya Balan included.
