Whether anyone can speak Hindi in real life doesn't matter as long as they can do their job well on screen.

The reason Katrina gets made fun of is because she sounds horrible on screen in her actual roles where she can play nothing other than an NRI properly.

If we're talking about real life Hindi, then even people like Deepika sound terrible with their accents and can easily be placed as being South Indian even when they play more Hindi heartland roles. Alia didn't sound Bengali at all in Rocky and Rani. BW movies don't take any of this seriously and neither does the audience.

Lata Mangeshkar sang this song in Tamil with SP Balasubramaniam. Tamil is a difficult language for non Tamil speakers at the best of times and this one is even more complicated because of its speed. She did a great job of it. So it's perfectly possible to sing fluently in a language that you can't speak at all, with the right training and lots of hard work.

You have the song written on a paper for you. You practice it multiple times. She is guided by THE Shankar Mahadevan for it. How is it in any way comparable to spontaneous talking where you are on your own without the support of anything above?

And why do 'actors' have to take over everything?! Any trained singer would have definitely done a better job. Let models, singers be!
