From my observations, not just from this but from various interviews they've given over the years, there is always some variation, but here's what I've gathered: Ranveer was head over heels in love with Deepika, completely smitten, and he was ready to go to any lengths for her. Deepika, being the smart and calculating person she is, took her time, explored her options as any wise person, might do, while keeping Ranveer in the background as an option. She may or may not have been involved with other men (which I don't think should be considered cheating). She assessed the pros and cons, all while watching Ranveer's career flourish. He eventually became a big name and even surpassed Ranbir at some point. That's when she gave in, and it's only worked in her favor. Her brand became even stronger, and her stardom reached new heights with him by her side. What she did seems like a reasonable, intelligent decision that any clever woman might make. As a woman myself, I'm proud of her, and I'd probably do the same.
