I will not tell alia is that good actress and all but we can't deny she has given solo hit movies like raazi, dear zindagi and gangubai she has played main characters in that. Even in her romantic movies she has equal screenspace dulhania series, Rocky aur rani and two states.Highway was one of her best performances for me. I think her weakest roles was in bhramstra whatever sadak was 😭😭. She is now producing movies I liked darling and if the spy universe and her next solo movie works out there is no stopping for her.

I think she’s unpopular now and in verge of being cancelled

But Whoopi Goldberg had shown herself versatile in comedy and drama. She even did stand up comedy specials for charity cases and was the only female comedian. That sounds like a talent

No she’s not.

She’s got stardom. But … her talent is very much dependent on her directors, and her box office status is dependent on marketing. And no matter how much she has achieved and will continue to achieve her legacy will always be that she’s the golden standard in nepo privilege. A Karan Johar created star. She’ll never live this down.

If we want to talk about redefining female stardom in Bollywood then we should talk about Sridevi who at the height of her fame was bigger than the male actors barring Amitabh Bachchan. And then Madhuri Dixit who also at one point was bigger than her male counterparts (again barring AB) and even got paid more than them. Alia is nowhere near them. From today’s lot Deepika Padukone is currently miles and miles ahead of Alia in stardom. But even Deepika is not Sridevi or Madhuri, keeping different times and environments in mind.

Not even by a long shot. Don’t get me wrong, I agree about her talent and her success in every field she’s tried her hands on. As a musician and singer she’s phenomenal. But to say that she’s the leading lady of Hollywood now is inaccurate. I’m not even sure if she was one when she won her acting Oscar (her second Oscar was for a song) when the likes of Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Natalie Wood, Ingrid Bergman, and many others were still around. Barbara Streisand is popular and iconic. But she’s no leading lady.

You've got it all mixed up, but let me clarify it. The topic is mainly about the change and shift that I think Alia Bhatt has brought to the scene. She's not your typical superstar like Deepika, Madhuri, or Sridevi, who exudes/d that superstar aura. She's got a different vibe. She's not your classic beauty, just like Barbra Streisand in the late '60s when she broke into Hollywood with "Funny Girl" and won an Oscar for her debut. Barbra went on to do amazing work and is now considered an iconic actress. So, what I'm saying is, Alia's not your typical superstar, but neither was Barbra in her time. Hollywood's leading ladies used to be all about the "perfect looks", like Elizabeth Taylor and Grace Kelly, until Barbra came along in the '60s.

I'm not calling Barbra Streisand a leading now and there's no reason to do so.

What exactly don't you agree with? I'm not saying you have to shower Alia with praise (it's tough when you're a fan of the predecessor and someone else takes the top spot or at least threatens to take it), but what part of her being just an average-looking who's one of the top stars today, if not the absolute biggest, doesn't sit right with you?

This post isn't about making fun of Alia or putting down other actresses, but it's a way to appreciate the shifts she's brought to the Bollywood scene.

In Hollywood, the leading ladies were often these ultra sexy, with those classic Euro-centric features like Joan Crawford, Vivien Leigh, Grace Kelly, and Elizabeth Taylor, until Barbra Streisand came along in the late 1960s. With her unique look and being labeled an "ugly duckling," she still soared to stardom and even won an Oscar for her first film. She paved the way for something different in hollywood.

In Bollywood, Alia faced her fair share of mockery and doubt from Student of The Year. Her features are quite average, and she doesn't exude that traditional superstar aura. Yet, she's become one of the biggest stars, and it seems like she's here to stay for the next 10 or even 15 years, considering how the shelf lives of Bollywood actresses have expanded. She's unlike the previous top actresses who had that unmistakable superstar vibes.

What are your thoughts on this?

she is kind of redefining it especially considering she didn’t take a break after her pregnancy.I think she has immense passion towards cinema.

I can tell one thing for sure, She has fans and haters like any superstar has. That is the biggest proof that she has stardom. There is something in her that makes her different from her contemporaries.

Its true she is privileged. those who mock, belittle and insult her for being privileged are forgetting one thing, she is leading a way. She was/is acting in lead roles during and after her pregnancy which will eventually be beneficial for all other actresses too.

I don’t have problem with privileged people when they use their opportunities well and change things for betterment of others too.
