I think writers intended to make him into a full fledged Karna but somewhere along the way they took a GIANT misstep and hos character ended up to become a RF....knowing Swastik 's love for Karna i knew that something was really wrong and somehow knew that this was the last we are ever going to see Kartik...

Problem is that they cannot able to handle so many characters. Usme kaha aur character daalenge.

Yes, kartik coming for revenge would have made much sense. But usko kaafi bada red flag bana diya tha. Aur bannnana nahi chahte honge. Kartik coming back means more spotlight to love triangle. Abhi usse bahut bade issues hai yuvika ki life me rather than focussing on kartik's revenge.

Yup they couldn't execute him as Karna....

Without compromising their Karna favouritism they compromised Zaan

They can show their Karna love through Vidur.

Maybe the makers had different diracton for Kartik's arc and changed it midway and Zaan was talking about the initial arc in the show?
