I wasn't able to watch the past week, so just caught up on the episodes and might have ff'ed through some of them. And honestly, I love the track so far. I don't really care that they are obviously whitewashing Ak. But the only way for me to see these episodes is to see Ak and Abhi as completely different people now. They are not the same people they used to be, and that has been done successfully by the show. Ak esp has changed so much, that its impossible to find old Akshu in her anymore. So I have stopped trying.
Overall, the fire incident was executed really well. I loved HC and Ami's acting. Abhi feeling guilt after that also makes a lot of sense. This is who Abhi has always been. In the guilt of Neil's death, he divorced Ak and took up the responsibility of Ruhi which he is still doing. He was in that guilt for six years, until he realized that in that guilt he gave up on Ak and he hurt her instead. So then he was in that guilt. I feel like he never really comes out of it, which is also a pretty normal response to trauma like this.
Ak on the other hand has experienced guilt and blames from a young age and mostly just knows how to run away from them and pretend they don't exist. But she also focuses more on moving on, than staying in guilt. And this is a principle disconnect for Abhira. They handle things very differently. When Ak was blamed for Neil's death, her focus was on grieving with everyone and staying there to help them. Obviously, like Manjari said, you can't help people who you have caused pain. So that is something she doesn't understand. But Abhi's reaction to a "similar" situation, is to go deep into his guilt and punish himself. Back then he punished Ak, and now he is punishing himself. Back then Ak ran away, but now she is fighting with Abhi. Back then Ak accepted Abhi's misguided decision, and now she rejected it.
At this point we have looked at wd in every way possible. But the fire incident is very different. Ak motivating Abhi is done pretty well according to me. She does come off as harsh and her outbursts are really jarring, but I think this is what Abhi needs in this situation. He needs some tough love to get him out of this, and it seems like Ak is the only person he really listens to.
Also, since Janmashtami, Ak has been constantly looking at Abhi and worrying about him. Even when she went to sing for Manjari, it was for Abhi. I wish they gave a dialogue to her that "Abhi won't be able to live without Ma", and then she decided to sing. But it was there in subtext. At this point, even with friendship or whatever, Ak is back to doing everything for Abhi. Even Manjari knows that, when Ak sang her to sleep after the panic attack, Manjari felt better because she knows Abhi is the one who brought Ak.
I don't think Ak has realized any of her mistakes. And this track would work a lot better if she talked more about her own guilt after Neil's death. Instead she talked about feeling lonely because she was abandoned. Whatever it is, there should be a lot more from her end, but I have low expectations from her.
what an amazing post. You are so right. We tend to(me especially) get caught up with our expectations and actually miss out on enjoying a good episode. Thank you for this.
