If I was the writer I would make Rey a Villain with his trust issue on the FBs and then they separate and in the present day make Aru a shield for being hurt and not letting him get her easily. Aur joh beech mein hoga dheere dheere solve karti mein.

Idk if you understand my vision but ya. Joh mess hai tik hai but the makers and writers have to solve them bit by bit and not drag the separation too much but enough for us to enjoy.
