She started saying it around 2012-2014 when she was trying to establish her music career in the US. Find me one from before then and I’ll gladly believe it

^^^Tupac was famous in the 90s and has been dead since 1996 so it shouldn’t be too hard to find if she genuinely liked him. She’s been in the public eye since 2000 after all.

Also people discover artists as they grow and are introduced to new cultures. You're telling me you've never had new celeb crushes as you watched new movies and familiarised yourself with new artists? I did not know Eminem when I was 12 but at 17 I heard all of his raps and watched all his interviews, whatever I could find about him on the internet. Now if some guy comes around and calls me fake and wannabe because I hadn't heard of Em at 12 so I'm pretending now, I might just break their nose. 😆

I just never get this weird gate keeping or calling desis fake if they say they like a foreign artists. I'm born and brought up in India so must I declare only Indian artists are my crushes? That's just weird to me. Others may feel differently.
