Not if you consider alcoholism a disease. She didn’t have an ideal childhood, had a bad and possibly abusive marriage. Her very short life was incredibly tragic, possibly even more tragic than Madhubala who at least had a few years of being happily in love with Dilip Kumar.

Kriti just isn’t a strong performer for such a complex character IMO. And Manish obviously has absolutely no experience as a director. This sounds like a complete mess.

I don’t think Krithi is good either. An yes a fashion designer as a director is ridiculous

But I also can’t agree that this woman’s “image” is being ruined when I can do a quick wiki search and she drank herself into liver disease long before Krithi tried to play her in a movie

I don’t know if this comparison is good. But did anyone ever say Ranbir was ruining Sanjay dutts image ? No conversely please complained they would glorify it.

The difference being Sanjay Dutt has been accused of being involved in the Bombay attacks and if I’m not mistaken weapons belonging to a criminal were found in his house. Someone can correct me if I got this wrong. Meena Kumari was an alcoholic who only hurt herself. She wasn’t a danger to society and innocent people, allegedly.

Plus the argument isn’t that this might ruin her image. The argument is that her life story is too complex for someone like Kriti to play her.

Someone specifically said the image would get ruined. An again a quick read of her biography would ruin that image as well. In my opinion

She had a very tragic life. And victim of abuse. She took to alcohol as an escape and form of slow su*cide. She just wanted to forget her realities and sorrows.

Not that she got into alcohol for a lark or fun.

Her image is of a tragic life. Not tainted.

It is no taint if others abuse you and you have no choice.

Don't know why this particular person is thinking of making Meena Kumari's biopic with this particular actress.

Sure. Meena Kumari's story has a great potential for a biopic but definitely not in the hands of these people.

People should watch Mahaanati a biopic of Savitri. It had not only great production values and costumes but also fabulous performances from the entire cast. It went on to become a huge hit and brought national award for the actress who played Savithri.

Don't know if they are inspired by this film or what.

On a serious note, alcohol dependence is a condition. It’s a recognized disease and is termed alcohol use disorder. There are even pills available to treat it. Meena Kumari should have received treatment. But I don’t think they had rehab back in those days even for rich people. Her life was tragic. Her story should be handled with sensitivity and nuance. I don’t think Manish Malhotra and his lehenga choli ideas will be able to do any justice to it
