They have both delivered good performances and bad. Premature to judge the actresses as a whole until both careers are finished. If I had to right now I’d pick Alia. Alia may have great performances in the future. It’s impossible for me to see any future on-screen Kangana performance without the baggage of off-screen Kangana.

Popping back in to ask this question.

What is "over-ambition"?

That she wants to be #1 for 10 or more years? That she wants to be known as the best actress ever? That she wants to go to Hollywood?

I dislike how she undermines her competitors by proxy and her insecurity about some others, but Alia can be as ambitious as she wants without at all being "over".

Was Hrithik overambitious for wanting to break into Hollywood? Was SRK overambitious for wanting to dominate production? Is Amitabh overambitious for continuing to look for hits in his 80s? Is Rajamouli overambitious for wanting his films seen worldwide?

This aside, I feel Indians as an ethnic group (me included) praise people who claim they don't want to be the best. For some reason, this gets conflated with humility. Not the same.

Why strive for mediocrity? Reach for the skies, girl.

On topic: Kangana is a better actor, but I can't put her real-life persona behind me to watch her movies anymore.

I think in her sane days, Kangna as an actress is much much better than Alia in her most hyped days. Had Kangna not lost her credibility by talking trash nonstop, she would still be very much in competition and giving sleepless nights to the nepo gang.
