If Akshay is smart, he'll gracefully bow out. This is a juggernaut ready to steamroll all competition for weeks. First of all its a sequel to one of the most loved films of all time, secondly Sunny Paaji still has it at 65, thirdly Jingoism sells like hot cakes, fouth both Sunny & Subhash Chandra(Zee Cinemas) are BJP loyalists froum way before BJP was even big....so you know this film will be promoted hard on the ground along with tons of Block bookings & lastly, thats a pretty sick teaser....especially "Dahej mein Lahore le jayega" dialogue.

I'll be shocked if it makes any less than Kashmir Files & The Kerala Story which means 300 Cr +.

Music was biggest reason for success of Gadar. It was a total rage be it Main nikla gaddi le ke, Udja kaale kaawa, Hum juda ho gaye.

Especially in North India, Gadar was a sheer juggernaut back then.

There was not a single person in our school or neighbourhood who had not seen Gadar.

Of course people also went bonkers over that hand pump scene.

New one will falter if it lacks music like old one. It also has weakness as it will lack solid supporting cast like Amrish Puri, Vivek Shauq etc who are no more.

Amrish and Sunny have always been a super hit combination. Amrish as possessive father was one of biggest highlights of that film. He was not technically a villain either. He just had a soft spot for his beloved daughter.

Gadars music became big after the film became a massive blockbuster, not before. Pre release Lagaans music was ruling the charts/radio waves. Mitra, Radha, Ghanan Ghanan, Chalo.....literally every song. Infact, Lagaan was Sold on the AR Rahman + Javed Akhtar combo. It was on every poster. Distinctively remember this, even as a child. 😆
