But those 2 did it with consent, they r husband and wife and , at what point do you stop when you already have done it??

That track needed to be much shorter - at least by 50%. But there is a plausible reason for MZ strategy: why elope vs kidnap.

MZ already had 3 murder charges against him. Abduction would be another criminal charge.

If Maryam was abducted, MK could have convened the jirga/panchayat. There MK would have been the clear aggrieved party and MZ would have been punished 100%.

But if Maryam elopes voluntarily, there is no police case.

In the case of elopement, MK will also not go to the jirga/panchayat because ghar ki ladki ka bhaag jaana is a blot on your izzat in their culture (the family would want to keep the matter hush hush). MK would also not be a clear cut aggrieved party ad eloping is voluntary and he might not have gotten a favorable verdict against MZ.
