AN EXCELLENT READ FOUND ON FACEBOOK
I have been posting memes and might continue to do so about the drama Tere Bin and it’s sheer dumb plot and cringey scenes but today in a gathering while we were discussing the drama in a light way, a few laughs here and there, an aunty said to me,
Beta they have made a mockery out of something as sacred as marriage.
It is such a beautiful relation and they have made a joke of it from the start of the drama.
What culture are they trying to promote and copy?
And I know it’s a far fetched idea, to even think that drama writers and directors would or could care about the sanctity of marriage or realize how wrong and bitter their portrayal is of it.
But again, why can’t they think of it?
You can show romance and betrayal and anger and distrust even but you don’t have to actually rip the relationship, based on Sunnah, to a million shreds.
Our society idolizes TV heroes, heroines and their relationships and this is what will stick with them,
a forced marriage where wife denies her lawful husband of his marital rights and then after thappars, lies, deceit, throwing out of the house and spitting on face scenes, rape is included too?
Can a happy ending, a family’s reunion or a messed up half hearted apology make up for all the wrongs they have shown to an audience of millions?
Can we at least talk about this even if we know it’s a fruitless struggle? Can we at least acknowledge the wrong like an intellectual society? Can we at least call a spade a spade? Can we at least have the guts to speak up about the way these dramas are affecting minds and corrupting society?
Talk.
At least talk.
