That was just gross. Thses uneducated jahils
Take her to hospital. Get her treated, tested, get DNA whatever you need. Get her to trauma clinic. She's lucky nothing happened but they didn't know that.
Instead she's asking such as gross thing. Getting her married the very day.
Why didn't murtasim tell her to an emergency trauma centre before going home??? Or even after from home??
How are these people not educated?
Meerab is lucky to go home. Yes the adopted parents are losers. But they have a little more sense.
Ideally, yes to all those things.
But, the reception Maryam got was way better than someone like her would get in real life. In a feudal family, Maryam would have been 100% killed by Murtasim once he found her and the matter buried under the carpet (honor killing). For them to show Murtasim just giving her a bearhug and Anwar putting his hand on her head - was a huge step up - and what some would call unrealistic even.
I want to cite two real life incidents from urban educated and "open-minded" families in Karachi that I knew. They are not the sort to ever raise a hand on their women or yell at them so girls were not physically punished for their "transgressions" but you can see shades of Khan family reactions here:
- This girl in my neighborhood eloped with a guy who was beneath her family's socio-economic class when she was in grade12 (he was the driver of the van that would give her junior college pick up/drop off). Her family was connected. There was no official police case filed (izzat and all you know - same reason as MB) but they were able to mobilize cops and found her in 2-3 days. No hospital visits were done - her fam wanted to keep things as hush hush as possible. The girl was brought home and married off in less than 2 weeks to some guy who was a widower and much older than her (and not a good match) and lived in some second tier city in Punjab. This is the reaction of an urban, educated family we are talking about when a girl in their family eloped.
- My class fellow in grade 10 had a BF and she got pregnant. She eventually told her mom who got her an abortion. She was kept under strict surveillance after that and was married off when she completed 12th grade to some guy who lived in the US. For those 2 years, her father and brother refused to talk to her and even look her in the eye. She was a complete persona non grata in her own home. They were a urban and very liberal family mind you. By Pakistani standards, this would be called a very mild reaction.
In Pakistan, if you go to the hospital and they suspect SA/rape, they will not do any testing or physical check up without a police report being filed first. This becomes a huge deterrent for people to access hospital in these cases. I once volunteered for an NGO that worked with SA/raoe victims and the % of women who report these cases or even go to the hospital is very small - especially if you are of marriageable age, the less likely the family will file a police case or go to the hospital - agar login ko pata chal gaya to shaadi kaise hogee being one big reason.
