Episode 37
If there was any scene that convinced me of Meerab’s gullibility, then this meet and greet with Anus’s fake mother did. The potential MIL comes in for possible marriage talks without the prospective groom, refuses to disclose her family name because she has none, she behaves like an uneducated uncultured brute, she insults the whole Khan family, she calls the prospective bride characterless, and Meerab still thinks it is suitable for Maryam to marry into Anus’s family. Murtasim was very calm all things considered, anas anus zubi or whoever this guy is finished, Murtasim was never going to allow his sister to be married off into such a vulgar family.
Murtasim’s love has spoiled Meerab into dangerously imagining that a husband’s love is all a wife needs in a marriage and every husband loves his wife like Murtasim loves her. Meerab is not answerable to her MIL, only Murtasim has rights over and even he can’t stop her. MB has an acid tongue while the taunts hurt Meerab, she has a steely personality that can handle this and is more than qualified to retort back, but most importantly her husband has her back. Even if Anus is a good guy that loves Maryam there is no guarantee he will do the same for her or his support will be enough to keep Yam happy for life. Anus’s mom is abusive does Maryam have the countenance to live with an MIL like that, no she does not, nor she does the have strength of character to fight this kind of assault for life. If Meerab understood Maryam at all she would reject this alliance.
She believes Anus’s love will compensate Maryam for any other deficiencies in life as if being a wife is the only role a woman plays in her marriage. Meerab is so protected in Murtasim’s world that she thinks that every wife is as lucky as she is to just remain as wife only and conveniently ignore other relations, roles and responsibilities which annoys them. Not every man is Murtasim, and not every husband treasures his wife like Murtasim does. Meerab what you get from Murtasim is exclusive to you only, he cannot be compared to other men. You are both incomparable.
Husband and wife are the same, first thing they do when getting up in the morning is find the other. Meerab’s ‘Where were you’ is her take on Murtasim’s ‘Kahan Ho’ on her birthday, non-compliance to this question will be met with fury. This scene compares both their levels of possessives over the other. From his side it is mostly protectiveness over her and from her side it is domination over him. The bossier she gets the more he loves to tease her. His finger over her lips, this is as close to a lip lock you will get in a Pakistani drama. You can’t analyze this scene it is meant to be seen and enjoyed. His smirk at the end reminiscent of the Kitchen Joshanda scene, flirt prince strikes again.
What makes Meerab a unique heroine is that in any other drama when the husband flirts with the wife, she would get all flustered, distracted and forget her purpose, not Meerab. Her mind is focused on the problem he didn’t answer her question, chase his ass down. Despite the external drama in their lives, they don’t stop being friends and lovers. He is King of SarcaSim (Murtasim’s signature sarcastic remarks), and only Meerab brings out his playful side. He can shed the baggage of gaddi janasheen, shed the image of the stoic ideal son, just become Meerab’s Murtasim. Meerab is so innocent sometimes, when the threat of MB fails, she pulls out the big gun. She knows his weaknesses are her tears, don’t talk to him and the biggest weapon of all ‘I will leave you if you don’t tell me where you were’. He is too sleepy to take this seriously. He hits the snooze only to wake up to what, wait, where is she.
